Timeline: Referral to committee: December 31, 2009 Committee discussion: January 6, 2010 Public hearing (if necessary: none Deadline: before committee meetings commence in 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: Following is an excerpt from city council rules about the selection committee chairpersons: E. Selecting committee chairpersons Committee chairpersons shall be elected by the Committee of the Whole following the first regular meeting of the City Council in January after the general municipal election. In the event of a tie, or by a majority vote of the Committee of the Whole, the committee chairperson election shall be continued to the next regular committee of the whole meeting. If the tie vote cannot be resolved by the Committee of the Whole members within the next two regular Committee of the Whole meetings after the first regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting in January, the selection of a committee chairperson shall be referred to the City Council President who shall select a chairperson for the committee.
