City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: A & F Item: Award Neighborhood Project Fund Grants Date: 11/20/09 Prepared by: Erin Scott, Neighborhood Liaison Initiated by: Community Forum Action Required: Adopt a resolution of the city council awarding neighborhood project fund grants to certain organizations and directing staff to negotiate contracts with said organizations for the Mayor's signature. Recommended Motion: I move the City Council adopt a resolution of the city council awarding neighborhood project fund grants to certain organizations and directing staff to negotiate contract with said organizations for the Mayor's signature. Timeline: Referral to committee: November 23, 2009 Committee discussion: TBA Deadline: December 31, 2009 Background and Alternatives Explored: City Council has allocated $18,000 for neighborhood project funds. Once the City Council approved the fiscal year 2010 budget, the Community Forum's Neighborhood Project Fund Committee and staff from the Office of Neighborhoods solicited applications for neighborhood projects. Members of this year's Neighborhood Project Fund Committee included: Hans Christiansen, Don Sims, Jim Meagher, Lyn Hellegaard and John Firehammer. The committee received and reviewed 9 applications. They recommended 7 applications for funding (see Exhibit A of the resolution). Two projects were not recommended to be funded. In accordance with resolution 6601, the resolution allocates $1,000 for small project grants. The Community Forum met November 19, 2009, and approved unanimously the Neighborhood Project Fund Committee's recommendations with 15 members in attendance. If the City Council adopts the resolution, the Neighborhood Liaison will prepare the necessary contracts with the grant recipients for the Mayor's signature. Financial Implications: $18,000 in Neighborhood Project Funds is allocated in this year's budget. This resolution commits $17,000 of those funds, allocating the remaining $1,000 toward small project grants. Attachments: Resolution
