Currents Sparkling Spa Soak away the day’s stress while you watch the leaves turn and the snow fl y through the large picture windows. Spa use is limited to persons 5 years and older, children between the ages of 5 – 11 must be directly supervised by an adult. Open daily. Recreation Swim Water play provides fun and fi tness for all levels. Space varies due to programming sched- ule. At selected times, the lap pool will be reserved for lap swimmers only. Water Aerobics A drop-in aquatics fi tness program designed to accommodate all fi tness levels. Increase fl exibility, build strength and improve your cardio fi tness. Not valid Sept. 23, Oct. 28. Splash-o-ween Halloween Party At Currents Missoula’s best (and healthiest!) Halloween party. Games, music, costumes, healthy snacks and of course, active fun in the pools. $1 of each entry will go directly to the Share the Fun Fund, a program that provides access to recreation and aquatic programs for low- income families. For: All ages! Games and activities geared for ages 5 and up. Fee: $3 per person, $1 of each fee (and any other amount you would like to donate!) will go directly to Parks and Recreation’s Share The Fun youth scholarships. Weekday mornings from 10am to 12pm, Currents offers a special rate for parents and their preschoolers to play in the water. For your convenience we have listed the Missoula County Public Schools Vacation and PIR schedule below. Inner-Tube Water Polo League Gather your pals and bring them to the pool for a fun sport! Sit in the tube, pass the ball, and score, but don’t get caught holding onto the ball too long: you might get tipped out of the tube! 6 person co-rec teams square off in the water in tournament play. A great way to be active with friends and family, little actual swimming ability required. League runs on Sundays, Oct. 9 - Nov. 20, 6 – 9:30pm. (No games Oct. 30.) Games are two, 14-minute halves, teams comprised of two males, two females, and one goalie (male or female.) $60 per team. Max. 12 teams, min. 6. Registration form at Currents or www.missoulaparks.org. Class #3580 Fall Recreation Guide 3 Open Kayak Sessions Bring your cleaned and scoured boat to work on your roll skills. This program will provide pool access to those individuals who want to keep their paddling skills sharp through the off season. Tuesdays 8pm – 10pm, beginning Nov. 1. Fees: Regular entry rates. Bring your own cleaned kayak/pad- dle/skirt/life jacket. Kayaking may be suspended during the holiday season, call 721-PARK. Jr. Swim Team A pre-competitive swim program for youth who are at or have completed Level 3 swim les- sons. Youth will be coached in swim team workouts, equipment, and terminology and will work on endurance and technique. Participants can train throughout the season through the use of Swim Practice Punch Cards. Ages: 6 and up. Must have completed Level 4 Red Cross swim lessons or higher Fee: $16 for 8 practices or $40 for 26 practices Meets: Tue & Thu, Sept 13 – Dec 15, 4 – 5pm Class# 3561 No practice November 24. Youth FUN Swim Meet A relaxed, pre-competitive event where everyone is a winner! With the help of parent volunteers, we will provide a positive introduction to the energy and thrill of competitive swimming. This sort of event can provide a child with the motivation to continue with a swim instruction & fi tness program as well as helping parents to track stroke and fi tness levels in their child. Ages: 6 and up. Must have completed Level 4 Red Cross swim lessons or higher. Fee: $5 per individual, up to 5 events. Meets: Monday, Nov. 30, 6:30pm – 8pm Class # 3562 Learn to Swim Philosophy and Guarantee Lesson schedule on page 4 The warm, shallow water at Currents provides a comfortable environment, and our instruc- tors provide a playful learning atmosphere so students look forward to their classes and learn through focused fun. Our Youth Swim Lessons are guaranteed! Students, ages 7 and up, will be able to swim 5 yards on their front and 5 yards on their back by the end of the session, or lessons are free until they can. Pricing on page 4. Parent-Tot / Parent-Toddler Swim Lessons Prepares youth for success in later lessons, while teaching parents how to introduce a child to the water. Parent-Tot, ages 6-18 mos.; Parent-Toddler, ages 1.5 years to 3 years. Pre-School Swim Lesson Levels Includes the skills from Levels 1 & 2 of the youth lessons through play and exploration. Red Cross Youth Swim Lesson Levels Aquatics staff can help you choose which level is right for your child. The Learn-To-Swim program progresses from complete beginner to swim team or lifeguard ability. Instructors assess the skill level of each student and may move students within class levels. Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills Face & Float: Students learn to put their face in the water and fl oat without assistance. Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills Glides/Strokes: Students learn to move through the water using glides, arm strokes, kicks. Level 3: Stroke Development Level Breathing Skills and Putting it all Together: We will focus on teaching students to breath while utilizing arm strokes and kicks. Level 4: Stroke Improvement Endurance and Effi ciency: We will focus on teaching students to be more effi cient and increase the distance they can swim. We will also introduce the more diffi cult strokes. Level 5: Stroke Refinement Coordination and Refi nement: We will focus on refi ning the performances of all strokes and increasing distance and swimming for fi tness.
