For immediate release: June 10, 2009 CONTACT: Marty Rehbein, City Clerk PHONE: [PHONE REDACTED] E-MAIL: [EMAIL REDACTED] City Council Seeks Greenhouse Gas and Energy Conservation Team Applicants The City Council is seeking applications from volunteers to serve on the Missoula Greenhouse Gas and Energy Conservation Team to help address climate change locally. The following non-paying positions are open:  Commercial/Institutional/Business sector representative  Industry sector representative  Alternate In 1996, the City of Missoula joined the Cities for Climate Protection, and in 2004 the City Council adopted a local action plan aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the Missoula area and established the Greenhouse Gas/Energy Conservation Team. The team is responsible to:  Educate Missoulians about greenhouse gasses  Research new technologies and how they can be applied locally  Communicate ways the city and the community as a whole can increase energy efficiency and generate power in ways that minimize greenhouse gasses With members representing diverse business sectors, the team researches the latest ideas and technologies and monitors energy efficiency initiatives throughout the area to advise the City Council. The team meets and works with the Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce and the Missoula Area Sustainable Business Council. The term for these positions begins August 1, 2009 and ends on July 31, 2012. Applicants for the team will interview with the City Council's Conservation Committee.
