City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Item: Bid Award for Curb and Sidewalk Improvements Project 08-004: Lolo Street from Missoula Ave. to Rattlesnake Dr. Date: June 3, 2009 Prepared by: Monte Sipe Initiated by: Doug Harby Action Required: Review bids for curb and sidewalk improvement Project 08-004, award bid to lowest responsible bidder and authorize return of bid bonds. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council award the bid for Project 08-004, Curb and Sidewalk Improvements adjacent to properties in the Lolo Street – Missoula Ave. to Rattlesnake Dr. area to AAA Construction for the sum of $154,249.59 and authorize return of bid bonds. Timeline: Referral to committee: June 15, 2009 Committee discussion: June 17, 2009 (property owners have been invited) Background and Alternatives Explored: The property owners were notified of this proposed project on March 12, 2009. This notification included proposed improvements, cost estimates, City contact information, and meeting dates. Project was ordered on April 13, 2009. The bids were opened June 1, 2009. A letter was sent to the affected property owners with revised estimates based on the actual bids. Per our revised policy regarding curb and sidewalk projects the confirmation order will be considered before the bid is awarded. Financial Implications: All of the costs of the improvements will be assessed to the adjacent property owners under the City's Special Improvement Assessment Program, with financing terms available up to twenty years and deferred loans available to low income property owners and any property owner with an assessment over $6,000.
