Greenhouse Gas Energy Conservation Team (Team) recommends, to the Missoula City Council Conservation Committee, support of the “City Employee Cash for Bus Commuters” program. 8-17-2009 The Team recommends that the Conservation Committee support Missoula In Motion’s (MIM) “City Employee Cash for Bus Commuters” program. We feel that this program will bolster the investment in the existing bus pass program and encourage a shift in commuting habits, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We recommend that you sustain this MIM program by dedicating (at most) $3,200 plus (at most) 10 hours of staff time for this 3 month program. MIM staff has had positive preliminary meetings with the City’s Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator and the Mayor’s Communications Officer regarding this proposal. Program details will be refined through MIM and the Missoula City Human Resources office so that the program can be as efficient and effective as possible. Again, the Team fully supports this program as a way of improving Missoula City’s emissions from City employee commutes. Cash for Bus Commuters Budget Budget: Prizes (maximum) $6,200 Marketing $ 200 Total $6,400 Sponsors: City of Missoula $3,200 Missoula In Motion $1,500 Missoula In Motion marketing $ 200 Parking Commission $1,500 (request not made yet) Total $6,400 One possible source of funding for the city for these types of projects could be the application of “Green Tags” revenue.
