Painter, Fire Chief Initiated by: (Same) Action Required: Confirm the Mayor's appointment of Fire Captain Chad Nicholson. Recommended Motion: I move the City Council confirm the Mayor's appointment of Chad Nicholson to Fire Captain with the Missoula Fire Department. Timeline: Referral to committee: August 20, 2009 Committee discussion: August 26, 2009 (or later) Council Action: September 21st, 2009 (tentative) Background and Alternatives Explored: Chad Nicholson was appointed to the position of Fire Captain with MFD on September 1st, 2208 – per our collective bargaining agreement, that promotion is subject to a 1-year probation period. Chad has successfully completed his probationary period and received high ratings in his performance appraisal. We would ask that the Council confirm his appointment. With the Council's permission, if approved by the Public Safety & Health Committee, I would like to schedule this item to be referred to the Council meeting of September 21st – that would allow Chad to attend the meeting and appear before the Council when confirmed.
