City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Administration and Finance Item: Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Missoula and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Representing Employees in the Communication Shop Date: October 15, 2010 Prepared by: Gail Verlanic Initiated by: Human Resources Action Required: Authorize the Mayor to sign the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Missoula and: the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). This is a two year contract Recommended Motion: I move the City Council authorize the Mayor to sign the extended agreements Timeline: Referral to committee: October 18, 2010 Committee discussion: October 20, 2010 or at the convenience of the committee Chair Background and Alternatives Explored: This is a new collective bargaining agreement with the Electronics Technicians in the Communication Shop. The Union agreed to a pay freeze for FY11 and a 1% increase for FY12. We also agreed to increase the their stand-by pay by $.05/hr and added language for them to receive certification pay by passing certification classes that will enhance their skills to provide a safe working environment and improve their service to citizens. Certification pay is $.25/hr for each certification and they can get up to four certifications per year. Financial Implications: The increase in the standby pay for FY11 is $333.00 and the increase for certification pay is $2,112. The FY12 cost is $397.00 for the wage increase and if both employees get 4 certifications each the cost could be an additional $4,970/year. Attachments: Collective Bargaining Agreement
