City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Committee Item: Bid Award for Project 09-003 Playfair Park CTEP sidewalks Date: January 6, 2010 Prepared by: Doug Harby Initiated by: Doug Harby Action Required: Award the bid for Project 09-003 Playfair Park CTEP Sidewalks and return all bid bonds. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council award the bid for Project 9-003 Playfair Park CTEP Sidewalks to Specialty Excavating for $65,421.40 and return all bid bonds. Timeline: Referral to committee: January 11, 2010 Committee discussion: January 13, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: This project will install sidewalks in several locations to create a complete 7 foot sidewalk system between Bancroft and Russell Streets through Playfair Park and the parking lot north of Russell School. The cost estimate was $87,446.65. The contractor was not known by City Engineering and was interviewed prior to the recommendation that the bid be awarded to him. This contractor has just completed a similar project in Stevensville and the contract was administered by the same consultant who recommended the approval of this bid based on past experience with this contractor.
