June 2, 2009 Mr. Kevin Slovarp City Engineer City of Missoula 435 Ryman Missoula, MT 59802 RE: Lolo Street Sewer Improvements Project City File No. 09-031 Evaluation of Bids Received Dear Kevin: As you are aware, bids for the Lolo Street Sewer Improvmeents Project were received and opened at the City at 2:00 p.m. on June 1, 2009. Six bids were received and a tabulation of these bids is attached. Multiplication errors were evident in the Bid Form submitted by AAA Construction. The table below lists the total bid price for each of the bids received. Contractor Total Base Bid LS Jensen Construction $63,604.15 Patterson Enterprises $74,137.90 Western Excavating $85,007.00 J.D. Russell Excavating $100,504.59 Becco General Construction Services, LLC $109,673.22 AAA Construction of Missoula, LLC $130,608.00 The Engineer’s Estimate for the project is $79,781.53. The Apparent Low Bidder for the project is LS Jensen Construction. Upon review of the entire LS Jensen Bid Package, the there does not appear to be any errors or omissions. In addition to the Base Bid Package, two Alternates were submitted by the bidders. The Alternates allow for a substitution of the 3-inch asphalt surface restoration with either a 1-inch or 2-inch depth of asphalt in coordination with the Lolo Street Sidewalk Improvements Project and subsequent City of Missoula Plans of new pavement for Lolo Street. The cost savings to the project would be $9,460, and $4,730, respectively. Morrison-Maierle, Inc. is familiar with the performance history of the Apparent Low Bidder, and concludes that they have the ability to perform the work included in this project within the time allowed for execution of the work. Morrison-Maierle, Inc. recommends the project be awarded to LS Jensen Construction in the amount of $63,604.15.
