City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Conservation Committee Item: Resolution Authorizing the Mayor to Sign for and Utilize Montana House Bill 645 funds for Playground Installations Project 2009-045a Date: July 22, 2009 Prepared by: Initiated by: Donna Gaukler Action Required: Pass a resolution authorizing the Mayor to Sign for and Utilize $380,000 of Montana House Bill 645 Grant Funds for City Project No. 2009-045a “Playground Installations.” Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council pass a resolution authorizing the Mayor to Sign for and utilize $380,000 of Montana House Bill Grant Funds for City Project No. 2009-045a “Playground Installations.” Timeline: Referral to committee: July 27, 2009 Committee discussion: July 29, 2009 Background: Montana House Bill 645 re-allocates State General Fund money saved by allying ARRA funds to shovel ready State Projects. There are critical time limitations to utilize these funds. Passing this resolution will allow the project to move more quickly and ensure the deadlines will be met. The first two projects, below, were listed in the final bill. However the City can request a change of scope through the application process and intends on adding the additional projects. 1. North Higgins Paving Cost Estimate $190,000 2. Handicap Ramp Upgrades Cost Estimate $240,000 3. Brooks Street Cost Estimate $240,000 4. Playground Installations Cost Estimate $380,000 a. Lafray, Sacajawea, Boyd and Marilyn Parks Project includes development of specifications and performance requirements and bid/procurement documents for each playground, demolition of existing aged playgrounds which no longer meet current standards, installation of borders, drainage, fall zone material and playground components. 5.
