City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Safety & Health Item: Type 1 Fire Apparatus Pumper Date: December 4, 2009 Prepared by: Michael L. Painter, Fire Chief, Missoula Fire Department Initiated by: same Action Required: Authorize the mayor to sign a contract with the successful bidder to purchase a Type 1 fire engine. Recommended Motion: I move the City Council accept the successful bid and authorize the Mayor to enter into a contract to construct Type 1 Fire Apparatus Pumper for purchase by the City of Missoula and return bid bonds. Timeline: Referral to committee: December 4, 2009 Committee discussion: December 16, 2009 Council acts to set hearing: Public Hearing: Deadline: If a contract can be completed prior to the end of the year, possible savings of up to $23,000 may be realized. Background and Alternatives Explored: This project has been advertised and bid per statute. Bid opening is scheduled for December 14th. This engine is on the City's core replacement schedule and will replace a 1990 Mack fire engine. Financial Implications: Bids are expected to be within budget for this fire apparatus. A total of $397,000.00 is budgeted to purchase and equip this pumper. Attachments: None.
