Building Inspection Division Administrative Rule No. 701 Photovoltaic Policy Adopted: Revised: PURPOSE: To determine when permits and/or inspections are required for photovoltaic systems. APPLICABILITY: Building Permits 1. A building permit will not be required if a letter is received from a licensed engineer stating that the existing roof system is adequate to support the photovoltaic system. This letter will be attached to the electrical permit. 2. A building permit will be required if an engineer’s report indicates that the existing roof structure is not adequate to support the photovoltaic system. The Building Permit Fee will be determined by the cost to make the roof system adequate. Electrical Permits 1. The Electrical Permit Fee for commercial projects will be determined by adding together the cost of the electrician’s services and the associated material costs. 2. The Electrical Permit Fee for residential projects will be treated as a service change or upgrade.
