FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 17, 2009 CONTACT INFORMATION Joan Jonkel, [EMAIL REDACTED] 721-1835 or 728-0345 PUBLIC ART SELECTION COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES WINNING ARTIST The Missoula Public Art Committee announced Thursday the Selection Committee's choice of Stuart S. Nakamura, Seattle, WA, as the artist who will design and execute a Fire Station public art piece at the Memorial Rose Garden Park. Nakamura, a prominent Washington artist who has designed several public art pieces in downtown Seattle, was selected from a group of 16 submissions. Interviews of the six finalists were held July 14. The $40,000 project, funded by the Missoula Percent for Art Ordinance, will honor past, present and future firefighters of the Missoula Fire Department. The Selection Committee's recommendation will now go to the Memorial Rose Garden Park Design Review Committee and the Missoula Parks and Recreation Board for final approval.
