Green Blocks Pilot Project Giving Conservation A Square Deal What will be done to my home to save energy? NorthWestern Energy INCLUDED CONSERVATION MEASURES The following items and systems may be installed or modified free of charge during the home audit process:  Weather-stripping for exterior swing-type doors  Door sweeps for exterior swing-type doors  Foam gap sealant for exterior walls, doors and windows  Window plastic for single-pane windows  Electrical outlet and switch plate cover gaskets for exterior walls  Low-flow kitchen aerators  Low-flow bathroom aerators  Low-flow shower heads  Programmable thermostats to replace existing thermostats  CFLs (screw-in type) in locations with ≥ 3 hours usage per day  Hot water tank insulation wrap and 10 feet of hot water tank pipe insulation (where accessible)  Other no-cost energy conservation measures recommended by the home auditor may be implemented. These include system adjustments such as reduction of temperature on hot water heater, unplugging unused appliances, vacuuming refrigerator/freezer coils, etc. Insulation Insulation may also be installed/increased free of charge by a preferred contractor as a result of the Green Blocks home energy audit. Insulation work will not be performed on the day of the home audit and will require a follow-up appointment. Insulation contracting may include:  Attic insulation (existing insulation must be less than R19 to qualify)  Basement wall insulation (existing insulation must be R0 to qualify)  Crawl space wall insulation (existing insulation must be R0 to qualify)  Exterior above-grade wall insulation (existing insulation must be R0 to qualify) ---PAGE BREAK--- EXEMPT MEASURES (WHAT WILL NOT BE DONE TO HOME AS PART OF GREEN BLOCKS) The following items will not be purchased or installed as part of Green Blocks (this list is not all inclusive):  Fuel switching from electric space or water heat to heat by natural gas.  Purchase or installation of new furnaces or water heaters.  Purchase or installation of renewable energy systems such as solar PV, solar thermal, or wind generators.  Purchase or installation of ground-coupled, water-source, or air-cooled heat pumps.  Purchase or installation of Energy Star brand appliances such as horizontal axis washing machines and refrigerators.  Re-wiring homes with knob & tube electrical wiring.  Lath and plaster or sheet rock removal/replacement for insulation work.  Purchase or installation of windows and doors.  Purchase or replacement of lighting fixtures. Please note: If asbestos or its potential is identified, no blower door test will be performed in the audit, and no insulation will be installed. If water or space heat equipment is found to be unsafe during the audit, a service order will be submitted to NorthWestern Energy, and if the unit is found unsafe by the NorthWestern Energy service staff, it will be condemned. The customers must then use their own money to fix or replace the equipment.
