2005 Scott Firefighter Stair Climb Results Team Time: 46:16 (10th Place) • 14:26 Brad Roe • 15:44 Matt Kerns • 16:06 Robert Hanneman • 18:00 Dean Johnson • 19:57 Tony Cate • 30:52 Ken Goodian 2006 Scott Firefighter Stair Climb Results More than a thousand firefighters climbed more than a thousand steps on Sunday, March 6, 2006, raising funds and fostering firefighter friendships in the process. Firefighters from Missoula City Fire were among those in the Bank of America Tower in downtown Seattle. Competing for only the second year, MFD's team time of 43:20 placed them third out of 128 teams, behind only teams from Seattle FD and Spokane Valley FD. MFD firefighters participating ranged in age from 24-year- old FF Joel Gaertig, a firefighter in Missoula for only two years, to 49-year-old Captain Kip Knapstad, with more than 17 years of service. And somewhere in the middle - or, more accurately, somewhere out in front - was SRFF Brad Roe, who finished 7th overall out of the more than 1,000 firefighters completing the event. Roe's time (13 minutes, 20 seconds) was more than a minute faster than his 2005 time. FF1st Class Robert Hanneman finished 20th this year in 14:24, FF 1st Class Joshua Stewart, competing for the first time, finished 44th in 15:36, giving MFD 3 finishers in the top 50. 11 firefighters from the Missoula Fire Department competed - Roe, Hanneman, Stewart, Bill Moore, Knapstad, Tim Pagelkopf, Tony Cate, Gaertig, A. J. Raczykowski, Ken Goodian, and Ron Brunell. FF1st Class Kory Garman traveled to Seattle as well, changing SCBA bottles for competitors during their climb. Firefighters from the Missoula Rural Fire District and Miles City FD also competed. MRFD's team time (45:53) placed them seventh overall. MFD firefighters raised more than $4,800 for the Leukemia & Society. Firefighters from Missoula City Fire were among those in the Bank of America Tower in downtown Seattle. This is the 3rd year Missoula City Fire competed, MFD's team time of 44:17 placed them 5th out of 137 field teams behind only teams from Seattle FD (41:20), Missoula Rural (42:38), Tualatin Valley Fire (44:10) and Kennewick Fire (44:10). MFD firefighters participating ranged in age from 24-year-old FF Joel Gaertig, a firefighter in Missoula for only three years, to 38-year-SRFF Brad Roe, with more than 14 years of service, who finished 14th overall out of the more than 1,000 firefighters completing in the event. Roe's time (13 minutes, 34 seconds) approximately 14 second slower than his 2006 time. Participating for the first year were Philip Keating, Nate Auge, Brett Cunniff and Bret Meyers. FF 1st Class Matt Kerns finished 29th this year in 14:54, SRFF Derek Mullins finished 57th this year in 15:49, FF1st Class Philip Keating finished 72nd this year in 16:10, FF1st Class Robert Hanneman finished 83rd this year in 16:19, FF 1st Class Joshua Stewart, competing for the second time was unable to finished the race do to dehydration. Fourteen firefighters from the Missoula Fire Department competed - Brad Roe, Derek Mullins, Kory Garman, Josh Stewart, Robert Hanneman, Matt Kerns, Ron Brunell, Philip Keating, Ken Goodian, Tim Pagelkopf, Joel Gaertig, Nate Auge, Brett Cunniff, and Brent Meyers. Firefighters Kory Garman, Philip Keating, and Tim Pagelkopf climbed the 69 flights of the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle not only once but twice.
