DRAFT 8/11/10 RESOLUTION NUMBER A RESOLUTION OF THE MISSOULA CITY COUNCIL IN SUPPORT OF THE MISSOULA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION’S TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENTS GENERATING ECONOMIC RECOVERY (TIGER II) GRANT APPLICATION, LIVABILITY IN MISSOULA'S OLD SAWMILL DISTRICT: MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENTS CATALYZING URBAN BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT WHEREAS, the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is applying to receive approximately $14,000,000 In funding from the U.S. DOT TIGER Grant program designated for multi-modal transportation infrastructure in the Old Sawmill District Neighborhood, which has been a blighted neighborhood within our community for over 20 years and, WHEREAS, the purpose of this project is to connect Wyoming Street from Russell to Orange Street, add another street known as Silver Parkway within the district, add traffic signals, add to and upgrade the trail system in the area including bicycle/pedestrian underpasses and safe lighting, reconstruct the floodplain levees on the Clark Fork River near River Road and near McCormick Park; and WHEREAS, each project is identified in the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Long Range Transportation Plan, the City’s Capital Improvement Program, the Master Sidewalk Plan or the Millsite Redevelopment Project; and WHEREAS, there is demonstrated need in the aforementioned documents for additional sources of funding for multi-modal infrastructure in the Old Sawmill District and surrounding neighborhood; and WHEREAS, the TIGER II funds, in combination with local contributions, will fund the projects including the described amenities. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Missoula, Montana that the City Council and Mayor support the intent of and projects contained in the TIGER grant application.
