Recommended Motion: Motion: I move the City Council set a public hearing for July 26, 2010 to … ADOPT A RESOLUTION OF THE MISSOULA CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE CONSERVATION LANDS MANAGEMENT PLAN. Timeline: Referral to committee: June 18, 2010 Committee discussion to set public hearing June 23 or 30, 2010 Council acts to set hearing: July 12, 2010 Committee discussion: July 21, 2010 Public Hearing: July 26, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: This plan has been developed to enhance the City’s ability to manage the approximately 3,800 acres, plus any additional open space lands that may be acquired through Open Space bonds or partnerships. It is extremely important that a comprehensive plan was developed for all conservation land types that is science based and acknowledging social and cultural needs and concerns. The plan includes goals, guiding principles, and policy for maintenance and management of conservation lands in the face of growing populations and use as well as changing climate conditions specific to the Missoula Valley. Financial Implications: $40,000, in general funds and impact fees, were spent to develop the plan. The plan includes a chapter on implementation.
