When will the footbridge at the north end of Greenough Park be put back into place, restor- ing a popular loop through the forest trails? We're sure many park users have asked this question since the bridge was removed to pro- tect it from flood waters in 2008. Since then, Mother Nature has intervened, making Rattlesnake Creek wider and deeper at the bridge crossing and compromising the bridge’s supporting structures. Both bridge abutments must be rebuilt and natural diver- sions must be installed upstream to help pro- tect the bridge and accommodate Rattlesnake Creek’s changing flow. Missoula Parks and Recreation has already in- vested $4,000 toward the project, and is work- ing with public and private partners to reduce project costs. Due to the economic downturn, the City’s budget cannot fully accommodate this unex- pected expense. Friends of Missoula Parks are working to raise the additional $13,000 needed to complete the project. Your donation will help reinstall the bridge, complete the hiking loop through Greenough Park, protect the watershed, and enhance fish and wildlife habitat in accordance with Mon- tana Fish, Wildlife and Parks regulations.
