City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Item: Resolution In Support Of the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER II) Grant Application, Livability in Missoula's Old Sawmill District: Multi-Modal Transportation Investments Catalyzing Urban Brownfield Redevelopment Date: August 9, 2010 Prepared by: Dave Prescott Initiated by: OPG Transportation Division Action Required: Adopt a resolution of support for the City’s TIGER II Grant Application Recommended Motion: I move the City Council adopt a Resolution supporting the Missoula Metropolitan Planning Organization’s TIGER II Grant Application for Multi-Modal Transportation Investments in Missoula's Old Sawmill District. Timeline: Referral to committee: August 9, 2010 Committee discussion: August 11, 2010 Council adopts resolution: August 16, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: The Federal Fiscal Year 2010 Appropriations Act includes a $600 million appropriation to the Department of transportation (DOT) for national infrastructure investments known as TIGER II Discretionary Grants. The Old Sawmill Site grant application seeks $10 million in TIGER funds as part of a total of $14.75 million to connect Wyoming Street from Russell to Orange Street, add another street known as Silver Parkway within the district, add traffic signals, add to and upgrade the trail system in the area including bicycle/pedestrian underpasses and safe lighting, reconstruct the floodplain levees on the Clark Fork River near River Road and near McCormick Park Final application must be submitted by August 23, 2010 Financial Implications: Project match will be derived from private sector participants in acquiring and dedicating new right of way for Wyoming Street and Silver Parkway. Local sidewalk assessments will also be used for portions of match on existing streets. Traffic impact fees from the City of Missoula are also potential match sources. Attachments: Resolution
