City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Committee Item: Renewal of State Route Maintenance Contract Date: June 2, 2009 Prepared by: Brian Hensel Initiated by: Brian Hensel Action Required: Approve and authorize the Mayor to sign a contract with Montana Department of Transportation (MDT). where as the City agrees to maintain State routes for street maintenance, weed control, tree maintenance, and traffic control generally located within City limits and described specifically per contract document. The City shall receive full reimbursement for work performed. The term of this agreement shall be for two years beginning July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2011. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council approve and authorize the Mayor to sign a contract with MDT for maintenance of State routes. Timeline: Referral to committee: June 4, 2009 Committee discussion: June 10, 2009 Background and Alternatives Explored: This contract has been renewed on a biannual basis with MDT and the City for over 20 years. Per contract, the City provides maintenance services including: street cleaning, asphalt maintenance, snow removal, ice control, storm drainage maintenance, weed control, tree maintenance, mowing, pavement markings, traffic control signs, and traffic signals maintenance. The City successfully negotiated a 1.15% raise in compensation per year due to increased operation costs through the term of agreement Financial Implications: Per this contract the City shall receive compensation of $449,562 in FY 10 and $454,731 in FY 11.
