City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Conservation Committee Item: Award bid for fencing for the Tonkin Trail project Date: July 2, 2009 Prepared by: Marty Rehbein, City Clerk Initiated by: same Action Required: Award fencing bid Recommended Motion: I move the City Council approve and authorize the Mayor to sign a contract with Fencecrafters in the amount of $17,950 for the Tonkin Trail project. Timeline: Referral to committee: July 3, 2009 Committee discussion: July 8, 2009 Public hearing (if necessary): n/a Deadline: July 13, 2009 Background and Alternatives Explored: Jeff Stevens, a member of the S. 39th St. Neighborhood Council has been working closely with the Parks Department to construct a trail in the south hills neighborhood. Pat Tonkin donated the easement across her land for the trail to the city, and one of the things she requested was that the trail be fenced to keep her livestock off the trail. Grant funding and cash-in-lileu of parkland funds are being used to finance the project. The contract will pay for the fencing associated with the project. Mr. Stevens has volunteered to remove the existing fencing. Following is the funding for the project: Neighborhood Project Funds ($3,000) Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks ($17,820) Cash in lieu of parkland dedication ($10,000) Three bids were secured for the fencing: Fencecrafters of Misoula $17,950 Grizzly Fence $19,800 Burlington Fence $21,920 Staff recommends the city council approve and authorize the Mayor to sign a contract with Fencecrafters of Missoula in the amount of $17,950 ---PAGE BREAK--- Financial Implications: See above Attachments: Fencing bids Contract
