City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: PWC Item: Special State Projects FY 11 Russell Street: Brooks Street from Mount Ave to Higgins Ave, mill and pave Date: April 13, 2010 Prepared by: Brian Hensel Initiated by: Brian Hensel Action Required: Consider an agreement with Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) for City of Missoula Street Maintenance Division to perform a large scale paving project on the State Route as described on the attached Appendix C and in accordance with our state route maintenance contract. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council authorize the Mayor to sign Appendix C of Special State Projects Fy11. Timeline: Referral to committee: April 19, 2010 Committee discussion: April 21, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: In the past City of Missoula and MDT have annually performed large scale street maintenance projects on State routes within City limits. These projects are permissible under our maintenance contract between MDT and the City. Financial Implications: These projects provide an opportunity for the City and MDT to benefit by improvements realized by a new street surface on busy routes within City limits. These special projects short-cut the complicated and protracted process normally associated with State contract work. MDT compensates the City for all work performed including labor, equipment costs, materials, and sub-contractors. Attachments: Appendix C (FY 11) and Cost Estimate
