Play Day activities include interpretive hikes, aquatic insect studies and fishing education from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Younger children are welcome to attend the Kaboom! Play Day with an adult. At more than 2,000 sites in all 50 states, National Public Lands Day volunteers will clean parks, lakes, streams and beaches, build trails and bridges, remove invasive species and plant native trees and ---PAGE BREAK--- vegetation. Many of this year’s events will focus on water and its importance in healthy ecosystems. At Silver’s Lagoon, volunteers will help build more fishing access sites and restore bank vegetation to create better fish habitat. National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity for people of all ages to get outside, work alongside their neighbors, and help to improve their community. “I’d encourage everyone with a couple of free hours to stop by,” said Outdoor Recreation Specialist Jason Pignanelli, who’s organizing the NPLD event at McCormick Park. “This is the third year we’ve hosted a National Public Lands Day event, and we’re excited to build off of our previous success.” For more information, contact Missoula Parks and Recreation at 721-PARK or www.missoulaparks.org To volunteer, phone Jason Pignanelli at 552-6271 or email him at [EMAIL REDACTED].
