City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Committee Item: Resolution on Brooks Street Lane Configurations Date: May 24, 2010 Prepared by: Jessica Miller Initiated by: Steve King Action Required: Resolution on Brooks Street lane configurations between Mount and Higgins. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council adopt a Resolution on the Brooks Street lane configurations between Mount and Higgins. Timeline: Referral to committee: May 24, 2010 Committee discussion: June 2, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: Brooks Street construction will take place between Mount and Higgins this summer. The project includes milling and overlaying the pavement, installing or replacing curbs, boulevard preservation and protection, tree planting, and improving or installing ADA accessible ramps. The width of the road will remain the same as it is now, so there is not enough room to have two vehicle lanes, two bike lanes, and two parking lanes. Public Works is requesting a recommendation from Council to the Montana Department of Transportation for lane configurations. The three main lane options are: 1. Two parking lanes with no bike lanes 2. Two bike lanes with no parking lanes 3. Parking on one side with bike lanes on both sides. The City will make a recommendation to the Montana Department of Transportation, which will make the final determination. Lane striping is planned to occur around August. Financial Implications: None Attachments: Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board Minutes Resolution
