City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Public Works Item: Exception to Noise Control Regulations for Miller Creek Road Improvements - Project 05-033 Date: May 18, 2010 Prepared by: Kevin Slovarp Initiated by: Kevin Slovarp Action Required: Approve an exception to MMC 9.30 Noise Control during construction of Project #05-033, Miller Creek Road Improvements. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council approve an exception to MMC-Chapter 9.30, Noise Control, for LS Jensen which will permit relief from the specified noise levels during construction of the Miller Creek Road Improvements Project - 05-033. Timeline: Referral to committee: May 18, 2010 Committee discussion: May 26, 2010 Background and Alternatives Explored: This project consists of road reconstruction as well as installation of sanitary sewer force main for Miller Creek, Upper Miller Creek, and Lower Miller Creek Roads. The City desires to conduct night work on two separate occasions. The first is to install sanitary sewer force main in the intersection of Miller Creek Road and Briggs Street and also the intersection of Upper and Lower Miller Creek Roads. This work is anticipated to take four nights beginning on June 7. The second is to pave the roads as listed above. This paving work is scheduled to take approximately one week towards the end of the project, sometime in August or September. Both of these occasions benefit the majority of the users of the roads as construction during the day would adversely affect motor vehicle traffic operations and construction activity. This exception is necessary to permit increased noise levels during the construction activities, which will involve work from 7PM to 7AM Monday-Sunday. Financial Implications: None Attachments: MMC 9.30
