City of Missoula, Montana Item to be Referred to City Council Committee Committee: Conservation Committee Item: Purchase of branch and limb chipper Date: Wednesday, April 14, 2010 Prepared by: Jack Stucky Initiated by: Jack Stucky Action Required: Consider the purchase of one 2010 Morbark Beever 15R branch and limb chipper from Normont Equipment, of Great Falls, Montana for $39,983 with additional options. Recommended Motion: The committee recommends the City Council approve the purchase one 2010 Morbark Beever 15R branch and limb chipper from Normont Equipment, of Great Falls, Montana for $39,983. Timeline: Referral to committee: 4/19/10 Committee discussion: 4/21/10 Background and Alternatives Explored: This purchase is not part of the scheduled equipment replacement. The Parks Department staff has arranged this grant and requested a speedy purchase. The wood chipper will be grant funded with a DNRC grant. Should this purchase be approved, this equipment will be used by the Missoula Parks and Fire Department to reduce potential fuel sources for wild land fires. This purchase is a cooperative purchase tagging onto a Missoula Rural Fire Department invoice for a similar purchase. Upon the recommendation of Rural Fire, we have increased the size, capacity and added several options to make this unit more productive. Financial Implications: The total cost of this purchase is $39,983. Base cost is $26,710 as bid by Missoula Rural Fire District. Rural Fire purchased a Morbark 12 R, we are upgrading to a Morbark 15R. The upgrade from 12” to 15” capacity will add $9,928. The hydraulic discharge swivel upgrade will add $1,600. The addition of a 5000lbs winch will add $1,745. This project is 100% grant funded. This is a cooperative purchasing agreement based on Invoice 19060134 to Missoula Rural Fire District from Normont equipment. There are no trades included in this purchase. Attachments: None.
