The Minden Town Board meeting was held starting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at 1330 Buckeye Road, Minden, NV 89423. Board Members present: John Stephans, Matt Bernard, Bill Driscoll, Roxanne Stangle. Staff present: Justin Townsend, JD Frisby, and Rachel Hamer. Chairwoman Stangle called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Roxanne Stangle PUBLIC COMMENT: None APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Stephans/Bernard moved to approve the March 27, 2019 Agenda. Motion carries unanimously. ADMINISTRATIVE AGENDA: 1. For possible action: Discussion and possible action to interview applicants for possible recommendation to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners for consideration of final appointment to the Minden Town Board. Discussion shall include, in random order, interviews by the Board of the following applicants: Mark A. Wlaschin, Robert Pohlman, Susan L. Jackson, Ted Thran, Johnathan Patrick Bridges, and Sondra Condron. Action may include formal recommendation of one name to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners for consideration of final appointment to the Minden Town Board. Each applicant shall be given up to 5 minutes to present themselves with an opportunity for the Board to ask follow up questions afterward. The Board may deliberate and take possible action once all the interviews are complete. Appearance by Roxanne Stangle, Chairwoman of the Town Board. Public comment. Mr. Frisby gave an outline of the process that will be used to interview which was the following. Each candidate was given 5 minutes to present themselves to the Town Board with public comment afterward. After public comment, each Board Member will give their top 3 candidates on a weighted basis. The top three candidates over all will be asked for additional interviews one at a time. The candidates spoke in the following order for five minutes each: Mark Wlaschin, Robert Pohlman, Susan L. Jackson, Ted Thran, Jonathan Patrick Bridges, Sondra Condron. The Chairwoman opened it up for public comment. Public Comment: Several members of the public spoke on behalf of the candidates. The following members of the public spoke in favor of Mark Wlaschin: Amy Carter, Larry Goss, Chad Nedeau, Ken Stoll, and Dean Miller. Mr. Bruce Palmer spoke in favor of Robert Pohlman. Ross Chichester and Bruce Jacobsen spoke in favor of Susan L. Jackson. Bev Giannopulos spoke in favor of Ted Thran. Steve Thaler spoke in favor of all candidates and asked for a candidate who is willing to stand up for Minden. ---PAGE BREAK--- Minden Town Board Minutes March 27, 2019 Page 2 of 2 Ms. Stangle thanked all the candidates who came forward and thanked the public for coming forward to speak on their behalf. She relayed appreciation and enthusiasm for having the ability to consider such qualified and dedicated candidates. She encouraged all the candidates who aren’t selected to run in the next election. Each Board Member then voted for their top 3 candidates. Roxanne Stangle – Susan L. Jackson, Ted Thran, Mark Wlaschin John Stephans – Susan L. Jackson, Ted Thran, Robert Pohlman Matt Bernard – Susan L. Jackson, Mark Wlaschin, Ted Thran Bill Driscoll – Susan L. Jackson, Ted Thran, Mark Wlaschin The three candidates to be interviewed further are Susan L. Jackson, Ted Thran and Mark Wlaschin and in that order. Each of the Board members asked questions of each individual candidate. After thoughtful and intelligent deliberation Driscoll/Bernard moved and seconded recommending the appointment of Susan L. Jackson to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. Motion carries unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT: Mr. Jacobsen gave public comment regarding Jakes Wetlands and the fishermen and people not cleaning up after themselves. ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Stephans moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:33 pm.
