Wishing you a wonderful holiday season! ---PAGE BREAK--- The Leaf Brief… Just a few notes and reminders on fall leaf disposal. Please do not rake them into the street. The Street Sweeper can clog from excessive amounts, and they may have to go around your curb if there are too many. Please fill up your brown can with leaves first (no bags), then you can bag up your extra and set them out for extra trash day, your 3rd trash pickup of the month. Please place trash cans in the guƩer instead of the sidewalk. This will free up the sidewalk as well as allow the trucks to pickup faster. Residents in a cul-de-sac should use the sidewalk for cans to help with truck turning radius. 1604 Esmeralda Ave Suite 101 Minden, NV 89423 Phone (775) 782‐5976 Fax (775) 782‐5287 Town AdministraƟve Staff: Jenifer Davidson, Town Manager Trish Koepnick, Office Manager Rachel Hamer, Senior Secretary Sharon Lueck, Office Assistant Town Public Works Staff: Greg Hill, Superintendent Carol Mikulski, Office Assistant Andy Concannon, Maintenance Supervisor James Smith, Maintenance Supervisor Dan Kistler, Maintenance Specialist III B.J. We would love to offer a map of decorated homes on our website for everyone looking to enjoy the seasons festivities. Anyone interested in having a pin point on the map please contact the Town’s Administrative Offices. Jenifer’s Journal In addiƟon to popular tradiƟons from years past, the events commiƩee has a number of new and exciƟng acƟviƟes planned for the 2013 Christmas celebra‐ Ɵon. Minden Staff take great pride in decoraƟng the Town for the holidays. We sincerely hope you will consider joining us this year to light up Minden. Together we can make this a holiday season to remember! Adjacent to Jake’s Wetlands is a vacant lot owned by the Town, which was iden‐ Ɵfied as a potenƟal trailhead for the MarƟn Slough Trail. I am pleased to report the Town was awarded $66,000 in grant funding for a trailhead at this locaƟon. The Board has directed staff to seek input from Minden residents re‐ garding a site plan for this project . All interested residents are welcome to aƩend the future public meeƟng. Addi‐ Ɵonal informaƟon will be posted on the Town of Minden website regarding the meeƟng date and Ɵme. QuesƟon of the quarter: Why is Jake’s Wetlands overgrown? Why doesn’t the Town eliminate algae in the ponds there? Answer: The Town used porƟons of Mar‐ Ɵn Slough to create Jake’s Wetlands. The goal was to establish a natural riparian en‐ vironment to miƟgate water run‐off and encourage wildlife. The naƟve plants se‐ lected for Jake’s are thriving and behaving as intended in a wetland environment. The only unexpected plant growth problem is the corn sprouƟng there. Visitors some‐ Ɵmes feed corn to the geese and this corn is flourishing in the rich soil. In addiƟon, there are no actual ponds at Jakes, merely natural water collecƟon points. Algae growth is naturally managed by adjusƟng water levels to mimic water runoff paƩerns. Our Staff does not use chemicals to treat the water because of the negaƟve impact those chemicals would have up‐ stream and down on the environment. Have a wonderful Fall Season! ‐ Jenifer 2013 CiƟzen’s Advisory CommiƩee Sanford (Sandy) Deyo 775‐782‐6691 Beverly Giannopulos 775‐782‐4226 John Hamer [EMAIL REDACTED] Debbie Jacobsen [EMAIL REDACTED] Sheila Kendrick Debra Lang [EMAIL REDACTED] Jeff Stephensen [EMAIL REDACTED] Cold Weather is on it’s way!
