On behalf of the Town Board and all our dedicated employees, we wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2010. Minden has a special place in our hearts and minds, and we as your elected representatives and employees pledge to do all in our power to provide you with the most responsive, efficient, and effective town services in this time of great fiscal stress and, for some, uncertainty. As always, we welcome your comments and participation in the governance of our Town. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank our last Chairman, my fel- low Board Member, Dave Sheets, as well as our employees for their efforts to continue to strive for excellence in the face of the severe economic challenges during 2009. As your Chairman in 2010, I pledge to continue this course of excellence. —Bob Hadfield This winter is off to a rather snowy start, which is great news for the skiers and sledders! For those of you who are a little less than excited about driving in the snow, please know that the Town of Minden has a snow removal policy designed to help keep the local roads manage- able. Still, our resources are lim- ited and the weather is a huge fac- tor in what we can accomplish in regards to snow removal. We ap- preciate your patience and under- standing during these tough storms. The Town’s snow re- moval policy can be found online at www.townofminden.com, or by contacting the Town Office. We’d also like to remind you that it is a violation of County Code to shovel your snow into the street. Doing so can hinder proper drainage, creating even more hazardous road conditions. A more appropriate place to place your shoveled snow is in your yard, which will give you the added benefit of watering the lawn once the snow melts! Together, we can minimize the inconveniences caused by this winter weather, leaving more time and energy for enjoying Minden as a Winter Wonderland! Letter from the Chairman... Still Deliciously Drinkable! Snow Removal By now you may have heard about the recent Environmental Working Group study that found three Nevada cities to have some of the poorest water quality in the nation. While it is very disturbing to think that the water coming out of your tap could be harmful to your health, we would like to assure you that the Town’s water meets all State and federal standards and is considered some of the best water in the State of Nevada. We test our wa- ter regularly, and an annual de- tailed Consumer Confidence Re- port is produced annually each July. This report is available by contacting the Town office. Minden to the Rescue! Town Staff — we’re here for you! This year’s Christmas celebration brought many new attractions to Town, including our new event tent which is now available for rent, as well as LED lights for the gazebo. The lights are clearer and brighter than the traditional lights, plus they use less electricity. This makes them better for the eyes, the budget, and the environment! The Town is working towards replacing the rest of our traditional holiday lights with these magi- cal little bulbs. 1604 Esmeralda Ave Suite 101 Phone: [PHONE REDACTED] Fax: [PHONE REDACTED] E-mail: [EMAIL REDACTED] Web: www.townofminden.com Doing a little winter cleaning? Don’t for- get about extra trash week or the resi- dential dumpsters available for your use. Extra trash is picked up on your third pick-up of the month. Your regular trash will still be picked up by the automated truck, so please place the extra trash at least three feet from your can. A separate truck will be by to pick up the extra stuff. If you are working on a bigger project, you may want to consider renting a dumpster for a week. As a Minden resident, you are entitled to a com- plimentary dumpster rental twice a year. The dumpster can be kept for up to one week each time and is emptied every weekday as long as it is at least half full. If you need a third dumpster rental in the year, there is a $17.60 fee per dump. The dumpsters are distributed on a first-come, first-serve ba- sis, so make sure to call ahead in case there is a waiting list. The Town is proud to offer free green-waste pick-up all year long; however, during the win- ter months when the yard waste is minimal and the weather can complicate trash collection, don’t fret if your brown can is not picked up on Tuesday. Just go ahead and put it out on your regular trash day with your other can(s) and we will be sure to empty it then.
