Well summer came upon rather quickly and now we can enjoy the amazing weather. Just a reminder on water conservaƟon, try not to water between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Also please try to keep water from running down the street guƩer. It is all part of the Summer watering conservaƟon that the Town of Min- den has suggested. The Town Board and Town Staff had a great Ɵme serving breakfast to everyone for Carson Valley Days. I hope you enjoyed the company, the food and the parade. Chairman’s Message Even with better snow and rainfall this year we are still considered to be in a severe drought. Here are some very practical tips that could make a huge impact on your water usage, which in turn has a big impact on our valuable water supply: Water in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evapora- tion, and check to make sure that you aren’t watering the house, sidewalk, or street. Run the washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full — saving up to 1,000 gallons a month. Use mulch around plants to help retain water. Water your plants deeply but less frequently, encouraging deep root growth and drought tolerance. Use a higher setting on your lawn mower; a taller lawn shades the roots and retains moisture, reducing watering needs. Install a rain sensor on your irrigation controller so your system won’t run when it’s rain- ing. Wash your vehicle with a spray nozzle that has a shut off valve. Special thanks to Main Street Minden and their talented group of volun- teers for their assistance with the planting of beautiful and colorful flowers in Minden Park. On behalf of the Town Board, Staff and Minden Main Street we hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor and join us in Minden Park for one of the several events planned there this summer including the GE Family Summer Concerts Series pre- sented by Douglas County and co-sponsored by the Town of Min- den and Carson Valley Inn. Finally, we hope you enjoyed Carson Valley Days and the Minden Breakfast this year and that you will join us for the Town of Minden 4th of July celebration. Special thanks to our event partners Model Dairy and the Carson Valley Inn without whom these events would not be possible. Enjoy your summer! Here are some friendly trash tips and reminders…. All cans need to be out by 6:00am the day of pickup. Sometimes the street order may change and you might get missed if it isn’t out. Please make sure to have the cans at least 2 feet away from cars and bas- ketball hoops and other cans so that the truck can pick them up efficiently. NO TRASH OR BAGS IN YOUR GREEN WASTE CAN. Due to an over abun- dance of trash mixed in with green waste, we are only picking up the green waste in brown cans. You will receive a red tag if trash is found in your can. Our staff has to dig trash out from the mounds of green waste at Bent- ly Ranch which is not only time consuming but not very hygienic. Extra trash is your third pickup of the month and must be out by 6:00am. It is a different truck that picks this up. Please make sure to put your items at the curb and mark, bag or bundle it up. We don’t want to toss out any valuables. Please remember the residen- tial dumpster program is first come first served, and is only free twice a year. 8/20 United Blood Services Blood Drive—CVIC Hall 8/20 Douglas Center for Hope and Healing Event— Minden Park 8/26 Concert in the Park—Minden Park 8/27 DCSO K9 Demo—Minden Park SEPTEMBER 9/16-9/18 & 9/23-9/25 & 9/30-10/2 CVCT Produc- tion—CVIC Hall Don’t forget Farmers Markets every Tuesday Evening from 4‐8pm on Esmeralda Ave in Historic Minden.
