The Chairwoman’s Corner 2015 Minden Town Board Roxanne Stangle, Chairwoman [EMAIL REDACTED] John Stephans, Vice Chairman [EMAIL REDACTED] Matt Bernard, Member [EMAIL REDACTED] Charlie Condron, Member [EMAIL REDACTED] Bill Souligny, Member [EMAIL REDACTED] Board Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month in the CVIC Hall 1604 Esmeralda Ave, Ste 101, Minden, NV 89423 Phone (775) 782-5976 Fax (775) 782-5287 WINTER 2015 NEWSLETTER Holiday Trash Schedule (Excluding Ranch @ Gardnerville) Here are some helpful tips for the upcoming Trash Schedule. If you have any questions please feel free to call. No Trash Pickups on Christmas or New Years Day! If your pickup falls on those holidays (Thursday) please put your trash out the day before by 6:00 a.m. (Wednesday). No yard waste pickup (Brown Can) the week of Christmas or New Years. Please do not put trash in the Brown Cans, the green waste is recycled. Extra Extra Trash pickup for the whole town will be Friday Dec 26th. Bag all your Christmas extras and set it where your cans would be (not in your cans). DO NOT SET TREES OUT. This is just like your regular extra trash day. Christmas Tree Pickup will be on Monday, Jan 5th. Please make sure to take off all decorations and leave it on the curb. Please do not shovel snow into the gutters and streets. It makes it difficult for the trash trucks to pick up the cans. Shovel it into your yard and your grass will get a little extra water in the spring! Make sure to always have your cans out by 6:00 a.m. on your trash and yard waste days. Sometimes the route order has to change and your can might not be out in time! We are very excited for all the upcoming events and projects for 2015. We can’t look forward until we look back at what a wonderful year 2014 has been. We are so happy to have had such an amazing turnout for Minden’s Holiday Weekend. The Gazebo Lighting was a great success. We had 130 kids enter in the golden ticket drawing to be Santa’s Helper to light the Gazebo and the lucky winner this year was Kadin Mitchell. We want to thank the Car- son Valley Inn for the cookies and the enter- tainment donated by “The Silver Brass.” The Parade of Lights had a huge turnout this year! We are so happy to be part of such a great tradition that makes us all feel closer to our community. These events wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts of our Staff and we want to thank them for everything that they do each year to make this season special for our residents. I would encourage any and all of our residents who are interested in volunteering to join us in making these events throughout the year even better. The upcoming year brings some changes to our Board. Steve Thaler has vacated his position as a Town Board Member to move into his new position as a Douglas County Commissioner, and we would like to wish him the best in his new role. Appointed to Steve’s seat is Bill Souligny. We are looking forward to the experience and enthusiasm that he brings with him. I look forward to another great year for Minden, and I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. -Roxanne Stangle- ---PAGE BREAK--- The next phase of the County Road streetscape improvements was the sub- ject of a Transportation Alternatives Pro- gram application made by Town Staff to the Nevada Department of Transporta- tion (NDOT). Earlier this year the Town was notified the project would be award- ed $314,000 in the next NDOT fiscal year budget. Unfortunately the funding means the timeline for completion of this phase of improvements will need to be moved back to the summer of next year. Because of funding requirements, Town Staff anticipate the project will not be complete until the fall of 2015. Finally, Town staff continues to work with Main Street Gardnerville, the Main Street Minden Steering Committee and local businesses on an economic revitalization program that will best serve Minden Busi- nesses. Economic activity is picking up but we are a long way from achieving the economic development goals of the Town. If you are interested in contrib- uting to the Main Street conversation please contact me at the Town Adminis- trative office. Your input is needed! As always if you have questions, con- cerns, or just want to stop by for a cup of coffee you are always welcome at the Town Administrative office. Happy New Year! As I am writing this, I find myself reflecting on the activities of the Town Board and Staff over the previous year. I thought I would use this space as an opportunity to summarize some of the important Town accomplishments of 2014 and provide you with an update regarding a few carry-over projects for 2015. The trailhead at Jakes Wetlands was com- pleted in the fall of 2014. It includes park- ing, picnic tables and landscaping selected to blend in with the existing native plant materials of Jakes. Eventually the trail- head will serve the Minden side of the Mar- tin Slough Trail which is scheduled to break ground in the fall of 2015. The Gateway Center right-of-way improve- ments seen from US Highway 395 and State Route 88 as you drive into Minden are nearly complete. The monument sign, landscaping, lighting and pathway improve- ments at that location will welcome resi- dents and visitors to our community and hopefully leave all with a lasting positive visual impression of Minden. In addition, at the request of Minden businesses, five additional street lights will be added to the Minden portion of the 395 corridor in the coming months. Jenifer’s Journal Snow Removal Please remember to: Keep the sidewalk in front of your property clear. Do not shovel the snow into the street. The Town will only plow the streets if there is accumulation of at least 4” on the ground with a projection of more to come within the next 12 hours. The roads are plowed to the middle of most streets. This is to prevent large berms from accumulating in front of sidewalks and driveways. The complete snow policy is available from the Town Office as well as on the website at www.townofminden.com.
