There will be a patriotic parade around the park for the young peo- ple—and young at heart. Already the Town Board has begun to assemble projects as part of a 5-10 year Capital Improvement Plan for Minden and has directed me to solicit input from residents. Please look for a short survey to appear in your mailbox in the near future ask- ing you to rate existing project plans and to provide sugges- tions for future projects the Town should consider. Once again, you can see there is a lot going on in the Town of Minden; still, our focus remains on providing efficient and ef- fective service to Minden Resi- dents. I can not emphasize enough that your com- ments and thoughts are greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you! Greetings from the Town of Minden Adminis- trative Office and Happy Summer! As our Chairman mentioned, I too hope you enjoyed the Carson Valley Days festivities. Many entities should be recognized for their contri- butions to the Breakfast in Minden Park, in- cluding Model Dairy, the Carson Valley Inn, and the 20/30 Club. In addition, I’d like to take this oppor- tunity to thank our Minden Staff for their hard work in making it all happen. This is a shining example of Minden Spirit in action and I was honored to be a part of it. Stay tuned for future events including the 4th of July and October CVIC Hall Centennial Celebration. As we move into the next fiscal year, beginning July 1, you will notice several projects around Minden taking shape. All projects were approved as part of the Minden Capital Improvement plan for fiscal year 2012-2013. The list includes side- There’s nothing like a dry winter to emphasize the value of water. We encourage you all to consider that value each and every time you turn on your sink or design your landscaping. Here are some very practical tips that could make a huge impact on your water usage, which in turn has a big impact on our valuable water supply: Water in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evapora- tion, and check to make sure that you aren’t watering the house, sidewalk, or street. Run the washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full — saving up to 1,000 gallons a month. Use mulch around plants to help retain water Water your plants deeply but less frequently, encouraging deep root growth and drought tolerance. Use a higher setting on your lawn mower; a taller lawn shades the roots and retains moisture, reducing the watering needs. Install a rain sensor on your irrigation controller so your system won’t run when it’s raining. Check the usage on your water bill! Even though you pay a flat rate for water here in Minden, if you have a water meter it is always a good idea to check the usage. This will give you an indication of how much water you are using on a regular basis, and will also help you notice when a leak has sprung.
