To start, I would like to thank our three outgoing town board members for their outstanding service in guiding our town over the last 20+ years. Bob, Dave, and Ross— THANK YOU! Job well done. Furthermore, I would like to welcome our three new board members— Roxanne, Charles, and Matt—welcome aboard! I hope everyone enjoyed the lighting of the gazebo and the tree at Minden park, along with the Parade of Lights and all the other activities held over the weekend of December 3rd and 4th. As incoming chairman, I would like to invite you to our town meetings, which are held on the 1st Wednesday of every month. Your involvement is welcomed. Town of Minden Winter 2010-2011 Join us in this new chapter of Minden’s history... Coming to Town: Elks Crab Feed CVIC Hall Jan 28 CVAC Concert CVIC Hall Feb 25 Library Community Read Program CVIC Hall Mar 20 Friends of the CV Youth Orchestra Concert CVIC Hall Mar 27 Kiwanis Ham Bingo CVIC Hall Apr 2 The Town is proud to offer free green- waste pick-up all year long; however, during the winter months when the yard waste is minimal and the weather can complicate trash collection, don’t fret if your brown can is not picked up on Tues- day. Just go ahead and put it out on your regular trash day with your other can(s) and we will be sure to empty it then. We never can tell for sure, but it looks like it’s going to be a white winter! You can get our complete snow removal plan from our website or by contacting the Town office, but there are a few steps you as a resident can take to help keep our community safe. Keep the sidewalk in front of your property clear. Shovel the snow into your yard and enjoy the benefits in the spring after it melts! Do not shovel the snow into the street. This inhibits proper drainage and can cause a big mess. Remember that the Town will only plow the streets if there is accumulation of at least 6” on the ground with a projection of more to come within the next twelve hours. 2011 Minden Town Board John Stephans, Chairman [EMAIL REDACTED] Steve Thaler, Vice Chairman [EMAIL REDACTED] Matt Bernard, Board Member [EMAIL REDACTED] Charlie Condron, Board Member [EMAIL REDACTED] Roxanne Stangle, Board Member [EMAIL REDACTED] We also encourage you to visit us at our web site, www.townofminden.com. We would love to hear from you, so please let us know what we could improve and what you like. The town board and staff wel- come your suggestions and involvement. Hoping the New Year brings joy and happi- ness to each and every one. See you at the next town board meeting! —John Stephans, Chairman Green Waste Collection We need your help! The Town of Minden processes over a thousand payments each quarter, and while we have an excellent record of getting most all those payments in the right place, there are a few little steps you can take to help us get your payments posted quickly and correctly. Please indicate your account number on your check. This is an enormous help when it comes to posting the payment to your account, especially if the check gets separated from the remittance slip or if the name on the check is different from the one on the account. While mispostings are rare, this will further ensure that your payment gets applied to the right account. Please refrain from stapling your check to the remittance slip. It can be tricky to remove the staple without damaging the check, making for a much more time-consuming process. The staple can be attached to the check stub, but we would really appreciate having the check free of all staples (or other adhesives). Please have exact change when bringing in cash. We keep very little cash on hand, so it is often difficult to come up with the correct change. We’ll do our best, but exact change is much appreciated, and overpayments can always be applied to future billings. Yay! Let it Snow! Don’t forget to check for updates on our website! Go to www.townofminden.com and click on the Events Calendar link on the homepage to see event details and contact information. ---PAGE BREAK--- Team Minden! If you’re starting to plan your garden, please think about making your garden as water effi- cient as you can. 2011 brings many changes to Minden. The last three members of the Town’s longest standing Board have been termed out and three new mem- bers have joined the current Board. Welcome new Board members Matt Bernard, Charlie Con- dron, and Roxanne Stangle. Congratulations to John Stephans, who was elected the 2011 Board Chairman, and to Steve Thaler, who was elected the 2011 Board Vice-Chairman. The water tank in the East Valley area is com- plete and we will have the corresponding water line installed and connected in 2011. We will start construction on two booster pump stations soon, to support the water tank and the water line to the north, and additional water line projects in the Town to improve our ability to deliver water. We’re completing the permit process on our new maintenance facility and will start construction this year, with a ground breaking ceremony in January or February. If all goes well, we will open the new facility in late summer or early fall. Watch for progress pictures on the Town of Min- den website, www.townofminden.com, as the project moves forward. Check the website often to see what’s happening in Minden. Stay warm, be careful, and have a Happy New Year! Helpful Reminders... Our trash guys do their best to pick up what- ever you have to put out; however, there are some items that are just not safe to be handled with the regular trash. Hazardous household waste such as old TVs & computers, paints, solvents, pesticides & fertilizers, aerosols cans motor oil & gas, as well as household chemi- cals & cleaners should never be placed in your garbage can. Instead, call Douglas Disposal at 782-5713 for guidance on disposal of these and other hazardous items. Together we can keep you and the trash guys safe— as well as prop- erly take care of this harmful waste.
