Water Tips & Trash Reminders Below GAZEBO LIGHTING DEC.5th Chairman’s Corner As we look ahead to autumn, I’m reminded of how fortunate we are to experience the beauty of all four seasons here in Minden. This summer has been especially enjoyable, with warm days, cool high desert nights, and the occasional refreshing rain shower. Life is good! Recently, we were invited to attend the groundbreaking for the new Douglas County Justice Center on Buckeye Road. By state law, the County Courthouse must be located in the county seat, Minden. Although the fifty seven acres where the Justice Center will be built were not within our town boundaries, the County requested that the Town annex this property. I’m also pleased to share that Minden has been awarded a grant of more than $300,000 to support improvements to Jakes Wetland Park. This is a matching grant, and the Town has already budgeted for the project. We’ve issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an architectural firm to create an improvement plan, and we are seeking additional grant funding for a restroom at this location. As always, if you ever have questions about what’s happening in town, please stop by the Town office and say hello to our friendly and helpful staff. And the next time you see our public works team maintaining our parks, repairing our roads, or driving the town garbage trucks, give them a wave to show your appreciation for their hard work. Blow Out Irrigation Lines - If possible, use compressed air to clear water from sprinkler lines. If you’re not comfortable doing it, call a licensed professional. 7. Street Storm Drains - Please do NOT blow yard debris into the street, and gutters. We need to keep the storm rains clear to prevent flooding during wet stormy days this winter.
