Starting in May, Millcreek homeowners, HOAs, and commercial property owners will be able to apply for rebates to replace existing landscaping with new waterwise landscaping that is designed for Utah’s climate. These funds have been made available through a recent legislative appropriation of $5 million for a statewide grass removal rebate program. ---PAGE BREAK--- Landscaping grants will be made in partnership with the Utah Division of Water Resources, the Central Utah Water Conservancy District, the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, and local water providers. Rebates for Homeowners If you are a homeowner, you may be eligible for a rebate of $2 to $3 per square foot of lawn. Submit an application and a landscape plan through the Localscapes® Rewards Program available at utahwatersavers.com. To maximize the rebate, we encourage you to avoid replacing any existing landscaping, or removing or killing grass, until you apply and get approval for your relandscaping plan. You can start your application now; applications will not be reviewed or approved until funding is available in May. Click here for guidance in Millcreek's own ordinance regarding Localscapes®. Rebates for Homeowners Associations and Commercial Users Homeowners associations and commercial users will have access to a similar rebate through a Landscape Leadership Grant, which is available through one of two sources: If you get your water through the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, click here. If you get your water through Salt Lake City Public Utilities, click here. If you get your water from another provider, please contact the provider directly for more information regarding a Landscape Leadership Grant. ---PAGE BREAK--- REMEMBER - VERY IMPORTANT! STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS! They are running fast and deep, people and pets can get swept away in just seconds. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO CLEAR OUT ANY STORM DRAINS NEAR YOUR PROPERTY. Getting the snow melt into the storm drains is the best way to protect your property and those downhill. CLEAN DEBRIS AWAY FROM STREAM PATHS IF POSSIBLE. If a stream runs along your property and you notice debris (logs, lawn furniture, firewood, etc.) that may wash into and clog culverts, pull everything possible away from where the water may rise. If you notice a serious problem that should be inspected, call the city offices at [PHONE REDACTED]. If you see something, say something. ---PAGE BREAK--- PIZZA NONO OPENS ON THE COMMON MILLCREEK. Last week, Pizza NoNo owner Will McMasters, Mayor Silvestrini, Milo the Moose, members of the Millcreek Business Council and city staff helped cut the ribbon for the newest Pizza NoNo location. Pizza NoNo is located on the south end of Millcreek Common near the Normal Ice Cream truck. Come on down to the Common and bring the family. Have fun roller skating and when you get hungry, grab some tasty pizza with ice cream for dessert. See you there!! TOMORROW PLAN FOR STREET CLOSURES THROUGHOUT THE DAY ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- Murray North Station Open House on Thursday MILLCREEK. Last year, the Utah State Legislature passed House Bill 462 requiring that municipalities update the moderate-income housing elements of their general plans. The bill ensures that each city is planning for and reducing barriers to moderate income housing. It also requires municipalities that have a fixed guideway public transit station (like Trax) to develop and adopt a station area plan (SAP) for the area within 1/2 mile of the station. Millcreek has two SAPs, one at 3900 S (Meadowbrook) and the other at the Murray North UTA Trax station, which is in Murray at about 44th South but very close to Millcreek's boundary (making Millcreek within the 1/2 mile SAP). Millcreek and Murray have have therefore teamed up to create a plan for the area. (Planning for the Meadowbrook SAP will begin shortly, in coordination with South Salt Lake.) ---PAGE BREAK--- An open house to discuss the Murray North SAP will be held this coming Thursday, April 27th, from 6-8 PM at Birkhill Apartments (16 E Gilbride Ave, Murray). Click here for more information and ways to get involved and provide feedback. ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- Join us for the Millcreek Promise 2023 Fundraiser! There will be friendly competition with games on the Common, food trucks, and a silent auction! ---PAGE BREAK--- Courtney Schriever (far left) from Catholic Community Services, presents a Certificate of Appreciation to (left to right) Kathy Ogden, Debbie Smith and Alisa Parks, volunteers from The Assistance League. VOLUNTEERS RECEIVE CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION MILLCREEK. One of the many non-profits that call Millcreek home, The Assistance League of Salt Lake City, recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from Catholic Community Services.
