Salt Lake Marathon Will Affect Travel in Millcreek MILLCREEK. It's April. That means it's time for the annual Salt Lake marathon. Not tomorrow, but next Saturday, April 21st, bicyclists, hand-cyclists, runners, walkers, and stragglers will make their way through the streets of Millcreek on their quest to complete the full 26.2-mile marathon. From 6:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., many streets and intersections in Millcreek will be closed to traffic. The map above shows the route through Millcreek the racers will be following. Click here and scroll down to see the full race route, which starts at the Olympic Legacy Bridge at the U and ends in downtown Salt Lake City. You'll need to plan your Saturday accordingly. SKYLINE INFORMATIONAL REBUILD PUBLIC PROCESS BECOMES CONTROVERSIAL MILLCREEK. More than 150 people attended the Skyline High Rebuild Committee's informational meeting this week. That made for standing-room- only in the school's Media Center. The Granite School District (GSD) made a brief presentation about the planning progress, then asked the audience to break into smaller groups to have their questions answered individually. Many in attendance loudly voiced frustration with that process, insisting instead on a public forum where all could hear the questions and answers. The small sessions went forward as planned, but the GSD then reconvened with the group for questions/answers. Only about one-third of the attendees remained, but GSD representatives answered questions for almost three more hours. Mayor Silvestrini, the Skyline PTSA, and the Skyline Community Council are working with the GSD to organize at least one more public meeting in the next few weeks. The meeting will take place in a larger space and in a public forum format that allows all in attendance to hear the questions and answers. Stay tuned. SCOTT PARK TREE PLANTING MILLCREEK. You may have noticed some changes to Scott Avenue Park. Salt Lake County is required by state authorities to remove trees from all levees in the county for flood mitigation. Scott Avenue Park is a levee, so unfortunately, many trees were recently removed. But there are plans to plant 20 new trees later this week, in a different part of the park TreeUtah, with help from the County's Zoo, Arts and Parks foundation, as well as the Alliance for Community Trees, the Arbor Day Foundation, and Traeger Grills, will be in the park on Wednesday morning, April 18th, from 9 AM to noon. They'd love your help! The trees and tools will be provided--all you need are closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Click here to register.
