The weather is warmer and soon we will be sitting at Millcreek Common enjoying some great Pizza NoNo pies followed by a Normal ice cream dessert. But before we spend time relaxing in the sun, we need to remember that the rising temperatures are melting all of that majestic snow ---PAGE BREAK--- Council Tues., 5/2/23, 6:30 pm City Hall, 3330 S 1300 E Or join virtually HERE Canyon Rim Citizens Association Wed., 5/3/23, 7 pm City Hall, 3330 S 1300 E Or join virtually HERE East Mill Creek Community Council Thurs., 5/4/23, 6:30 pm City Hall, 3330 S 1300 E Or join virtually HERE in our mountains, and our rivers and streams will soon be full to overflowing. Depending upon Mother Nature's whims we can expect to be having snow melting for the next several weeks. Here are some important things to remember: Stay away from the water!! The streams are running fast and the water is very cold. It only takes a couple of inches to knock you off your feet. Keep children and pets away from the water. Even if it looks like it is calm, there may be very dangerous currents under the surface. Clear out any storm drains near your property!! Getting the snow melt into the storm drains is the best way to protect your property and those downhill. Move items away from stream banks!! If you live along one of the four streams that run through Millcreek, move anything that might be picked up by the rising water and washed where it may clog a culvert and cause flooding. Move any debris, lawn chairs, firewood, firepits, anything that high water might grab. Our partners at Salt Lake County Flood Control have been working hard to clear the stream channels and are unable to respond immediately to individual concerns reported by residents but if you notice a dangerous situation along a stream that you cannot handle, please let us know by calling [PHONE REDACTED]. Thank you, all you volunteers who came and filled sandbags on three Saturdays in April. You helped us to establish the City's sandbag supply, and then replenish it after we assisted our neighbors with the recent Emigration Creek flooding. Thanks also to the volunteers who have worked to clear out our creeks and inspect for debris. — Mayor Jeff Silvestrini The weather is not the only thing that is heating up!! The Millcreek Arts Council and the Millcreek Library are hosting Millcreek Elementary students for the May Art presentation at the Library. Third and fourth graders from Grace Davis’ art classes first discussed characteristics of a Utah landscape and how Utah’s landscape has changed over time. They then used colored torn paper to create their own images of Utah landscapes. ---PAGE BREAK--- Students learned about how artists use foreground, middleground, and background to create depth in landscape images. To start, students drew thumbnail sketches of landscapes before deciding on one idea for their final piece. They drew out their landscapes first, then tore paper to add color and create texture. Come visit and enjoy these pieces at the Library at 2266 E Evergreen Ave. A reception will be held from 6-7 pm on May 5th to celebrate the artists. Music by Tyler Refreshments will be served. Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter, Tyler will be performing. Tyler has been performing the Blues at the Utah Blues Festival and he gains his inspiration from past Blues legends.
