7/12/2024 - BUDGET APPROVED WITH NO NEW PROPERTY TAX; SO MANY EVENTS; COOL ZONES; ANIMAL SERVICES NEEDS HELP; etc. View this email in your browser ANNOUNCEMENTS Public Meetings Planning Commission Wed., 7/17/24, 5pm City Hall 1330 E Chambers Ave See Agenda Below NEWS Fiscal Year 24-25 Budget Approved With No New Taxes MILLCREEK. While costs are going up in many areas of our lives, city property taxes are NOT going up in Millcreek this year. On June 24th, the City Council met in their regular meeting and approved the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. This budget includes increased funds for capital improvement projects along with the general city operating funds. What this budget does not include is a property tax increase for Millcreek residents. Funding was increased for the pavement preservation, sidewalk improvement, traffic calming, active transportation, and 50/50 Curb/Gutter/Sidewalk cost sharing programs. ---PAGE BREAK--- “What was especially impressive was that the city was able to absorb the 7% increase from the Unified Police Department caused by the reduction in economies of scale with the Salt Lake County Sheriff separation,” said Treasurer and City Councilwoman Cheri Jackson. “The team is working very hard to be prudent with tax dollars while looking for grants for a lot of the fun ‘extra’ things like the climbing wall on City Hall and Phase II of Millcreek Common," she said. Residents will see more work on the deteriorating roads that were inherited from Salt Lake County and streamlined city services. To look at the services that Millcreek offers its residents as well as the Budget-in-Brief, take a look at the city website–MillcreekUT.gov. Thanks to your unwavering support, we have maintained our no-kill status for over a decade, making us Utah's largest life- saving municipal shelter. However, we are currently facing unprecedented challenges. Nationwide, there has been a 30% increase in dogs euthanized due to overcrowding and limited resources. Unfortunately, we are starting to experience similar issues here in Salt Lake County. To address this, we are planning to build an outbuilding with 20+ additional dog kennels. This expansion is essential for accommodating our long-term residents and giving them a better chance at finding loving homes. Our goal is to complete this project by the end of 2024 or early 2025, but we need your help to make it a reality. Your continued support is crucial in helping us ensure that every adoptable pet finds the loving home they deserve. To make a donation, please visit: slcoasoutbuilding.cbo.io. Interested in becoming a sponsor? Please contact Jami Johanson at [EMAIL REDACTED]. Thank you in advance for your generosity and commitment to our mission.
