Agenda below Visit our Community Calendar NEWS Changes Coming This Year to Several Millcreek Grocery Stores and the 23rd/33rd Intersection MILLCREEK. Along with many specialty shops, Millcreek has at least ten major grocery stores, including (in no particular order) Macey's, Fresh Market, Sprouts, Dan's, Rancho, Walmart, and Smith's outlets. A recent story in the Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Dan's grocery store on the corner of 23rd Subscribe Past Issues Translate ---PAGE BREAK--- 11/1/2018 Changes coming to 23rd/33rd intersection 2/8 East and 33rd South, a Millcreek stalwart for decades, is set to close. Though tomorrow was scheduled as its last day, a visit today found it shuttered. A representative of Associated Foods, which owns Dan's, Fresh Market, and Macey's grocery store chains, advises that the store will be merged with the Fresh Market store on the corner of 23rd East and 39th South. In addition, the Olympus Hills Dan's will receive a major makeover this summer, and will become a Macey's. The decision to close the 33rd South Dan's was based on its proximity to those two other Associated Foods stores, as well as the new Macey's on 45th South and Highland Drive (which BTW is in Millcreek despite its "Holladay" moniker). Look for big changes on the corner of 23rd East and 33rd South. We have been informed that two new retail uses will open in the vacated Dan's building. Since leases have yet to be signed, we are unable to confirm what those uses will be (and we dislike talking out of school). The developer has told the city that it is also considering building a new retail pad on the north end of the parking lot, facing 33rd South. No plans have been submitted yet for review, but the building may be similar to the one recently built on the west side of the Olympus Hills Shopping Center next to Wasatch Blvd. CLEAR YOUR HYDRANT Subscribe Past Issues Translate ---PAGE BREAK--- 11/1/2018 Changes coming to 23rd/33rd intersection 3/8 MILLCREEK. Utah's abnormally warm January is ending. A big storm has been working all day today on moving into the valley. It is expected to arrive late this evening, with heavy snow until tomorrow, and light snow expected through Monday. If you have a fire hydrant on your property, the Unified Fire Authority requests that you clear snow from a 3' diameter around the hydrant, and also a path to the street. Having the hydrant clear lets the firefighters get right to work without first having to dig it out. Minutes count when responding to a fire. The City is working on alleviating sidewalk trip hazards throughout our neighborhoods. Over the next few months, weather permitting, you'll see crews from Precision Concrete Cutting working to shave away uneven areas. Concrete displacement up to 2 inches can be remedied without compromising the integrity of the sidewalk. Also, for safety's sake, the slope of the shave must extend 12 inches for every 1 inch of sidewalk displacement. Larger displacements may require sidewalk replacement. Those repairs go on a list for future work, the priority of which must be based on relative safety issues and funding availability. Prevent Unwanted Litters of Kittens this Spring MILLCREEK. On the first Thursday of each month this year, the first 40 house cats through the doors of Salt Lake County Animal Services will receive FREE spay/neutering, microchipping and vaccination services. The only fee will be $15 to license your cat if you've not already done that. Salt Lake County Animal Services is located in Millcreek at 511 West 3900 South. The FREE services will be offered to cats who arrive between 7:30-9 AM. The next opportunity will be on February 8th, and then every month thereafter on the first Thursday.
