MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Churchill Jr. High School April 4, 2017 - 7:00 PM Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of Council Members In Attendance: David Baird, Joan Haven, Chuck Pruitt, Kumar Shah, Pasu Pasupathi, Ken Smith, John Knoblock (minutes), Richard Williamson, Bill Blatter, and Joy Goddard UPD Officer Prescott reported that they are still doing speed control with fewer Speeders on the road. The council asked him for long-term data on crime. David Baird will ask Chief DeBry to help out. Public comments from Resident Walt Plumb Walt reported that he removed the no trespassing sign from the trail on his vacant lot at the top of Zarahemla Drive. Walt requested that we help find a way to have the Mount Olympus Water truck stop from driving up through the neighborhood and if possible get them to install a pipe down to Mill Creek Canyon Road. Walt said that he would pay legal fees if needed. David Baird will strategize with Walt on a path forward. Jani Iwamoto reported on the legislative session. She had 8 bills passed. She felt most of the bills were good but there were a few bad bills in the legislative session. Jani felt that we need people from Millcreek to volunteer to get on boards. Jani will forward boards information on to Jeff. Cheri Jackson explained the citizen corps five pillars of cert, police, fire, neighborhoods and neighborhood watch. She is looking for a neighborhood and block captains to be aware of neighbors and what needs to be reported to the police if there is an incident. There will be a meeting on April 20th at 6 p.m. at the city offices she is also encouraging neighborhood block parties so neighbors can get to know each other. Mayor Jeff Silvestrini The city council voted to make neighborhood permit parking at the end of Wasatch Boulevard as existing. They will add 15 new spots to park on the west side of Wasatch Boulevard. They may add additional resident parking to Gateway and lower Cascade way in the future but not at this point unless there is a problem. Jeff wants to discuss the City Municipal Services at the May meeting. Millcreek should get $1.8 million road funds in establishing our budget. Over $1 million projected in sales tax revenue above expenses at this point. The city council has to have a public hearing and then they will be able to fund their community councils. Millcreek needs to maintain a $700,000 balance as a reserve in our budget. Riverton and Herriman may leave the Silvestre Police District at the end of the year and Millcreek needs to ensure that we get our funds balance out at the same time. This would not be leaving unified police it would just change how it is paid for similar to the municipal Services District. ---PAGE BREAK--- John Janson John explained the commercial zones that he is rewriting. On April 19th there will be a Millcreek public meeting to discuss. We are considering moratorium to prevent unwanted use applications. Zoning may also require a development agreement for new commercial rezones. We need objective criteria to limit items like building height below the maximum. Kyle - Jeff Silvestrini said that Millcreek will still provide vests and dumpsters for community cleanup days. We will try to do the Wasatch Boulevard beautification project the second Saturday in August. Jeff Silvestrini- Millcreek will put and zoning issues on enforcement high priority.
