Millcreek staff spent time organizing and preparing hygiene kits to help the International Rescue Committee assist newly arrived Afghan refugees. We sent out a call in this newsletter for donations and were amazed at the response. We are pleased to announce that 127 hygiene kits will be delivered to the International Rescue Committee for distribution to families in need! ---PAGE BREAK--- Canyon Rim Citizens Association Wed., 1/5/21. 7 pm Join Virtually HERE Kits include soap, body lotion, deodorant, razors, shaving cream, tooth brushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, shampoo & conditioner and feminine hygiene products, all packed in a reusable bag. Staff had a great time going through the many kits that came already prepared and filling additional bags with various items that had been donated. Mayor Silvestrini and Assistant City Manager & Economic Development Director Mike Winder helped in the effort by manning the phones and the front desk for the morning. Once again, Millcreek residents have shown that they have big hearts and stepped up to help! Thanks to everyone who dropped off items for such a great cause!! ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- We Are Finally Getting the Snow Storms We Badly Need! ---PAGE BREAK--- The last storm was a big one with deep, dense snow and our Salt Lake County Operations crews did a great job of dealing with a serious storm of this size. It takes time to clear all the roads throughout Millcreek and some areas need attention first including school routes and the steep areas of the city. Due to the size of this storm some roads were not cleared until later in the week. We apologize to the residents impacted by this inconvenience, but hope that an explanation will help everyone understand. As with almost every industry today, Salt Lake County is faced with labor shortages, and that includes snow plow drivers. At this time, there are fewer drivers than plows! Snow plow drivers work long hours in very demanding conditions and deserve and have our thanks. It is a balancing act to keep the plows moving while making sure the drivers have adequate down time to sleep and recharge. Adding to the problem are unforeseen circumstances like having a fully loaded snow plow sink into a roadway that has been undermined by an undetected water line leak. This plow seen below was damaged and knocked out of service. Fortunately the driver was not injured. Please have patience as crews do their best to clear the roadways. If your street has not been cleared within 24 hours of a storm, you may report the problem through the Report a Concern button on the city website or contact Salt Lake County Operations directly at [PHONE REDACTED]. ---PAGE BREAK--- KEEP MILLCREEK STREETS CLEAR DO NOT SHOVEL OR BLOW SNOW FROM YOUR PROPERTY ONTO THE STREET, IT CREATES DANGEROUS ICY PATCHES ---PAGE BREAK--- HOW IS COVID IMPACTING MILLCREEK?
