View this email in your browser The 2020 census data will help communities plan funding for hospitals, clinics, and emergency services across the country. This is just one of the many reasons to take the time to complete your Census 2020. It's easy to do and means so much to so many. Mayor Jeff Silvestrini participated this afternoon in conference calls with representatives of the State of Utah and Salt Lake County Unified Command regarding steps the state and county are taking to "turn the dimmer up" on the economy. Governor Herbert announced Utah's reopening plan, entitled Utah Leads Together 2.0. Pursuant to the phasing guidelines and current statistics, Salt Lake County is revising the emergency order that is in effect through May 1st. The stay-at-home condition of the Order is being rescinded, however: SOCIAL AND OTHER GATHERINGS ARE STILL PROHIBITED. Masks are expected to be worn in public to protect other people. Patrons will be able to order food inside of restaurants for takeout provided social distancing is implemented. Salt Lake County's health department and intelligence/data team are working towards planned May openings (with required social distancing) of restaurants, personal services, gyms, and the county's government center. Millcreek's only emergency orders have involved the processes of moving city business forward in light of the pandemic. But note that as citizens of the County, Millcreek residents are subject to the County's Order. MILLCREEK ADOPTS ANTI-IDLING ORDINANCE ---PAGE BREAK--- MILLCREEK. In an effort toward contributing to cleaner air in the Salt Lake Valley and the better health of our residents, the Millcreek City Council recently adopted an anti-idling ordinance. The change prevents idling on public property and in the City right-of-way, but not on private property. If the outside temperature is warmer than 40 degrees or cooler than 90 degrees, then you shouldn't be idling your vehicle for any longer than two minutes. There are a variety of common sense exceptions, which you can view here. Thanks go to Millcreek's Iceberg Drive In, 3906 S. 900 E, for putting up a Millcreek "No Idling" sign at their drive through (and sending city employees free milkshakes yesterday!) We'd like to remind you all, especially now when we all are doing more pick up/take out and temperatures are rising that it is still important for all of us to care for air-shed and limit unnecessary idling of vehicles. NOTICE Millcreek City Hall remains open however in light of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), PLEASE make use of these tools: Consider doing your business by phone – call [PHONE REDACTED]. Refer to the city website at millcreek.us for answers to your questions or for letting us know about issues. Much of your business with the city can be done online, such as applying for business licenses and building permits. Use our streaming feature to virtually attend public meetings, and our comment facility to make public comment remotely. Restrooms in City Hall have been closed to the public. If you do come to City Hall, please sanitize your hands, keep a 6-foot distance and minimize your contact with city employees. We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave City Hall. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING. ---PAGE BREAK--- WHY SOAP HELPS WHEN WASHING HANDS Salt Lake County is Using County-Owned Facilities, Including the Holladay Lions Center, for COVID-19 MILLCREEK. County-owned facilities throughout the valley, including the Holladay Lions Center located in Millcreek, have been requisitioned by the Salt Lake County Unified Command to provide temporary emergency housing for individuals exposed to the Coronavirus who do not have a safe location to quarantine or isolate. This will help provide safe distancing and reduce the potential of spreading the virus through the county. The individuals who will be quarantined in these locations are a part of our most vulnerable populations and come from a wide variety of circumstances. Facilities will be staffed with medical professionals, security, and mental health ---PAGE BREAK--- professionals. Note that the tent outside the Holladay Lions Center is not for housing, but is being used for screening and to provide for better social distancing for those using the facility. PARKING VEHICLES IS PROHIBITED IN BIKE LANES MILLCREEK. As spring (and the virus) have been bringing more of us outside for exercise, we have been hearing from residents about problems with vehicles being parked in bike lanes. This causes pedestrians and cyclists to swerve into traffic, an unsafe situation for everyone. For safety's sake, parking is prohibited in bike lanes throughout Millcreek, even if they are not marked "no parking." Remember tickets can be issued to vehicles illegally parked in bike lanes. (Also, as a reminder, cyclists should adhere to all safety regulations and use common sense when using the roadways. Bike Utah provides some good information on their website here.) Millcreek's Emergency Manager Helping Out MILLCREEK. In addition to his regular duties at the City, Millcreek's Emergency ---PAGE BREAK--- Manager Andrew Clark, has been working with Team Rubicon during the pandemic. To ease the burden on local hospitals, Andrew has been assisting at the Mountain America Expo Center, receiving supplies from the National Stockpile, setting up cots to house non-COVID-19 overflow patients, and organizing portable shower tents and a pharmacy area. He and Team Rubicon have also working at the Utah State Donation Center, gathering and sorting supplies that will be distributed to those in need. Thank you, Andrew! CITY COMMEMORATES ARBOR DAY AND EARTH DAY MILLCREEK. On April 13th, the Millcreek City Council adopted an Arbor Day and Earth Day Proclamation. The Proclamation recognizes the importance of preserving our natural resources; the benefits of Milcreek's urban forests for improving air and water quality; combating climate change; and all citizens' responsibilities as stewards of the Earth to preserve it for future generations. Though most events have been cancelled due to the pandemic, here are a few ways to commemorate Earth Day and Arbor Day: Tracy Aviary's website is providing a great way to virtually explore the outdoors and the aviary. An Important Message from Rep. Ben McAdams About Fraudulent Scams There are several ways we are protecting ourselves and our neighbors from the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately, we also need to protect ourselves from scams that use the public health crisis to target innocent victims. Schemes related to COVID-19 include promises for testing and treatment, offers for businesses to apply for government loans at a cost, and attempts to collect personal information claiming to be the IRS processing economic impact payments. Below are some scams I’ve been hearing about: Fraudulent Claim: There are vaccines and treatments available, that are proven to cure, treat or prevent COVID-19. Fact: There are currently no vaccines to prevent or drugs to treat COVID-19 approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA is working with vaccine and drug manufacturers to develop new vaccines for and find drugs to treat ---PAGE BREAK--- COVID-19 as quickly as possible. Fraudulent Claim: You must pay a fee to apply for a coronavirus relief business loan. Fact: There is NO application fee to apply for the the Economic Impact Disaster Loan, Paycheck Protection Program, or Utah’s Small Business Bridge Loan. Fraudulent Claim: The IRS is contacting you by phone, email, text, or social media asking you to verify personal information to receive your economic impact payment. Or they are offering to work on your behalf to help get your economic impact payment sooner. Fact: The IRS is not contacting anyone to retrieve banking or other personal information. Fraud comes in many forms and we all must be hyper aware of scammers trying to cheat us during this vulnerable time. If you suspect COVID-19 fraud, contact National Center for Disaster Fraud Hotline (866) 720-5721 or [EMAIL REDACTED]. With most people self-isolating and working and recreating at home, this is a unique opportunity to take a closer look at how your home can become more comfortable and efficient. Perhaps a new paint color, furniture replacement or re- arrangement, better lighting or a well-organized workspace is just what's needed. Once we're able to be out and about, re-doing these elements becomes even more important because you've had time to really understand what works and what doesn't. Change can be so refreshing! Vivian Dowsett Interiors has been designing and decorating homes for over 25 years. In these more challenging times, it's so important to be living your best life in your home. Why not contact Vivian to see how, together, you can make that can happen? Meetings with the Mayor Fridays from 2-4pm have been set aside for citizens to meet with Mayor Silvestrini.
