The anticipated growth of another 600,000 people in Salt Lake County by 2065, will impact critical riparian habitat and green spaces. Beginning in 2020 with a survey of current conditions, followed by several open houses and community surveys, the resulting Seven Greenways Vision Plan outlines a community-supported framework for a connected system of greenways that celebrate our waterways. This plan contains many "Big Ideas" to preserve and re-establish greenways throughout the valley for future generations. Millcreek has three creeks that run through its boundaries: Mill Creek, Big Cottonwood Creek, and Parleys Creek. Our city has the second highest amount of buried and impaired creeks within Salt Lake County. Mill Creek is exposed in public spaces only in Scott Avenue Park; the rest is either underground or runs through residents' back yards. Big Cottonwood Creek is mostly underground, flanked in Millcreek only by private residential or commercial properties. A small stretch of Parleys Creek flows into the northern boundary of Millcreek at the base of Grandeur Peak—the start of many local teenagers' favorite summertime activity: “Shoot the Tube.” The creek then runs under I-215, and into Salt Lake City. Take a look at the plan; it is exciting and expensive—but what a gift to our children and future generations. REVIEW THE FINAL DOCUMENT HERE ---PAGE BREAK--- Enjoy our creeks with your family.
