MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Churchill Jr. High School March 21, 2017 INTRODUCTIONS: Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of Council Members In Attendance: David Baird (Chair), John Knoblock, Kumar Shah, Ken Smith and Pasu Pasupathi (minutes), Bill Blatter, Richard Williamson, and Joan Haven, Chuck Pruitt and Joy Goddard REPORTS: This was a joint meeting of the Millcreek City council and Mt. Olympus Community Council. Focus of the meeting was to obtain community input on the continuation of Resident Parking Permit requirements for the streets near the trailhead access points for the Grandeur Peak trail. The meeting was attended by a significant number of residents from the affected areas. Millcreek City mayor Jeff Silvestrini and MOCC chairman David Baird briefly outlined the rules for participation in the meeting. John Miller from SLCo development Dept. briefly discussed the history behind the parking restrictions imposed and the requirements for the resident parking permits. UPD Chief Debry discussed crime statistics associated with increased use of the trails\head parking areas. Fire Marshall Larson briefly talked about potential problems for fire fighters due to cars parked on both sides of the neighborhood streets in an uncontrolled fashion. After this the meeting was opened to the citizens to voice their opinions either in favor of or against continuation of the parking restrictions. Mayor Silvestrini told the audience that the City Council would receive written comments from the citizens until close-of-business Friday, March 26, 2017. The City Council will address this issue during the Council meeting on Monday, March 27, 2017. David Baird announced to the City Council and the audience that the members of the MOCC were fully aware of the various sides of the parking issue and MOCC would recommend continuation of the Parking Permits limited to local residents.
