The collection for these areas will take place on Saturday, 9/12/20. On Wednesday, Mayor Silvestrini issued a proclamation declaring a local emergency as a result of the severe windstorm that occurred on September 7th and 8th. The proclamation can be viewed here. The emergency declaration will help the City qualify for federal funding help. You can help by clicking here and filling out Salt Lake County's damage assessment form if you sustained any damage to your property from the wind (this includes damage to your home, business, yard, and/or vehicles). In the meantime, here are some answers to FAQs the City has been receiving: Q: I still don’t have power—who do I contact? A: Rocky Mountain Power. When your power will be back on depends on what happened to take it out. Damage to substations and to main circuits has been repaired, which has restored power to thousands of customers. But local damage in neighborhoods is more labor-intensive and obviously more time- consuming. Of the more than 180,000 affected customers, approximately 37,000 are still without power, including more than 4,500 in Millcreek. According to RMP, some customers may be without power through the weekend. ---PAGE BREAK--- The area of the storm was huge, affecting much of northern Utah, as well as parts of Idaho and Wyoming. The damage was so extensive that crews from all over those three states plus Nevada and Iowa, working non-stop round-the- clock, are still in the process of restoring power. You can receive updates multiple ways: View RMP's outage map at rockymountainpower.net/outages Get the RMP mobile app at rockymountainpower.net/app Text OUT to 759677 and receive updates Call customer care at [PHONE REDACTED] (please be aware they are experiencing extremely high call volumes) Q: Will the City be doing a curbside pickup? A: Unfortunately, no, as there is significant damage throughout the County, leaving insufficient resources to be utilized only in Millcreek. However, the City is looking for volunteers for a community-wide debris cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 7 AM to 5 PM. Volunteers with access to trucks and/or trailers would be greatly appreciated. Volunteers should also bring yard tools such as rakes, shearing/pruning tools, chainsaws, gloves, and personal protective equipment to assist. Volunteers are welcome to participate anytime between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. but must check-in at the Volunteer Coordination Center at Millcreek City Hall, where they'll be put in teams of 5-10 and sent to areas that need the most help. Activities will include assisting neighbors with branch/leaves collection, tree trunk removal and loading/moving large branches and stumps to designated dump sites. Q. Is there a drop-off site for green waste? A. We are working with Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling to place containers for green waste in various locations throughout the City over the next couple of weeks, with priority at least initially for the hardest-hit neighborhoods of Mt. Aire and Connor St. In the meantime, you can take your green waste to the a central drop-off location at the Salt Lake County Maintenance Yard at 3800 S Wasatch Blvd, which will be available for drop-offs between the hours of 8 AM and 8 PM, Mon- Sat. This drop-off location and hours will be re-evaluated as the need declines. ---PAGE BREAK--- The Salt Lake County Landfill (6030 California Ave) will be waiving all green waste fees until noon on September 23rd. You may also come to City Hall to receive a landfill voucher valid through the end of the year, which is good for one free trip to the landfill. Wood suitable for firewood can be dropped off at Esther's Garden, east of the Synagogue on Heritage Way, to help the Utah Native American Elders COVID- 19 Firewood Relief Drive & Collection effort. See the brochure below. Q: What do I do if there is damage to my property? A: The City will not be able to address damage on or to private property, which is the responsibility of individual homeowners. Check with your insurance company to see if you have coverage. If you see damage affecting the City right-of-way, including blocked streets and sidewalks, please report it here: Q: I need individual assistance during this time—who do I contact? A: The Red Cross has been deployed and is providing relief and support to individuals impacted by the storm. Please call 1-800-RED-CROSS for assistance. If the request is beyond the scope of services of Red Cross, they will connect you with other community resources. Q: I want to help with debris cleanup—who do I contact? A: Contact Millcreek Emergency Manager Andrew Clark [PHONE REDACTED] [EMAIL REDACTED] tel:[PHONE REDACTED] or [EMAIL REDACTED]. As noted above, the City is conducting a windstorm debris clean-up event tomorrow, Saturday September 12, from 7 AM to 5 PM. Meet at City Hall. You can also sign up as a volunteer through JustServe.org. This is still a developing situation and we continue to assess the damage. We appreciate your patience and any efforts you can muster to assist your neighbors who might need assistance. Please stay away from the most affected neighborhoods so as not to impede clean-up efforts. Thank you! As we all know, the windstorm event in our city on September 7th and 8th caused a lot of debris to be scattered throughout the City. We all need to clear our yards, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, and driveways of dirt, leaves and other materials. This will prevent these materials from washing down the gutter in the next storm and clogging a catch basin grate. A clogged ---PAGE BREAK--- grate will prevent storm water from entering the storm drain system and lead to flooding of property, including landscaping, driveways, garages, and basements. If you live next to a catch basin, please clean the grate as needed and dispose of the material. For more severe clogging of both the grate and catch basin, please call the city at [PHONE REDACTED] for scheduling of maintenance. Let's work together to prevent these pollutants from entering local waterways and improves water quality. Thank you for your efforts in preventing flooding and keeping stormwater clean!
