Based on their unique knowledge of the issues in their neighborhoods, community councils submit an annual list of their top priorities to the city. The city planning and development review processes start at the community council level. Each council reviews and makes recommendations on land use applications, like development or rezone requests, or proposed ordinance changes. The city's first "grass roots" review of new ordinances usually takes place at the community council level. Community councils hold their meetings in public so all residents can attend. Her artistic pursuits started at a young age, admiring and learning from her mother who is an artist in India. Durga derives inspiration from anything and everything around her. She loves to express her ethnicity and culture through her art. To Durga, creativity is a parallel universe, where expressions cannot be contained by the hurdles of the real world. As an artist, there is nothing more gratifying for her than watching paint dry. Utah has helped her rediscover her passion in arts. This exhibit titled is “Textures and Techniques” and captures a glimpse of all the different mediums and techniques Durga has explored. Using different mediums to create desired textures is always an intriguing process. Artwork in mediums such as clay, watercolor, mirror work, quilling and glass intend to give a diverse experience for the viewers. Right from an upside-down painting, done in a unique way of painting the whole portrait in reverse, to a painting done using coffee, this display will capture many intriguing techniques Durga has adapted over the years. She always hopes to spread positivity and vibrancy through her art. @strokes_durga A Farewell to Lamont Tyler Lamont Tyler, a great educator and leader in the Millcreek community, passed away May 8, 2022 at the age of 85. Lamont spent eight years in the Utah State House of Representatives (1994 to 2003) representing our community. He later became a member of the group of Millcreek citizens who helped Millcreek to change its status from township to municipality. During the incorporation campaign, Lamont and his wife, Carol, hosted numerous meetings at their home in East Mill Creek to assist with education on the issue. He was a knowledgeable and persuasive canvasser as he helped the incorporation group fill petitions with signatures to move incorporation to a ballot proposition. Lamont earned a Ph.D in chemical engineering in 1965 from the University of Utah. He returned to the U in 1970 as a faculty member in the department of ---PAGE BREAK--- engineering and remained there until his retirement in 2002. He was department chair from 1981-94 and received the College of Engineering Outstanding Teacher Award He also received the Outstanding Counselor Award and was named Outstanding Student Chapter Advisor by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. After retirement from the U, Lamont returned to teaching – this time at Salt Lake Community College, where he taught a variety of math and engineering classes from 2005 until his death. Lamont served two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Australia: one as a young single man, and one as a senior with Carol. Lamont will be greatly missed by Carol, his seven children and 23 grandchildren, and by many Millcreek citizens who appreciate and honor his admirable service. You can view additional obituaries here and here. Thank you, Lamont, for your invaluable contributions to Millcreek!
