MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Churchill Jr. High School August 16, 2016 - 7:00 PM INTRODUCTIONS: Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of Council Members In Attendance: Jeff Silvestrini (Chair), Chuck Pruitt (minutes), John Knoblock, Kumar Shah, and David Baird. Excused: Joan Haven, and Pasu Pasupathi. Minutes: Minutes from the July 19, 2016 meeting were discussed and approved as previously amended. MOTION - Approved by unanimous vote. REPORTS: Unified Police Department Report: Our new Community Liaison Officer for Mount Olympus and Canyon Rim was introduced by Sgt. Brent Davis: Detective Ronnie Prescott [PHONE REDACTED] [EMAIL REDACTED] Detective Prescott was the Skyline High School resource officer for the past 4 years and has 18 total years of experience with the Unified Police Department. The crime case report map for Mount Olympus was reviewed: offenses were lower than usual for August and overall remain low relative to other communities. Community Input: 1) There was a general discussion of possible changes of community council boundaries after Millcreek incorporation. 2) The September 20, 2016 MOCC meeting, to be held in the Churchill Junior High School auditorium, will be primarily a review by FEMA of the Mount Olympus flood plain designation and its financial impact on the community. BUSINESS: 1) Resolution to authorize Joint Committee on Incorporation (Governance Committee) and Candidates (Candidates Committee) to use Township web site. ---PAGE BREAK--- MOTION – Approved by unanimous vote. 2) Update on pre-incorporation activity. The Governance Committee, composed of a team of expert community volunteers and representatives of other cities, is assisting with incorporation planning, including: a. Currently – adapting county code of ordinances for Millcreek, b. Ongoing – meetings with Candidates Committee to discuss approximately 150 action items to be enacted at first city council meeting, e.g. choosing governance type (city manager vs city administrator), drafting request for proposals (RFP) to hire employees, etc. c. 11/8/2016 – election day, followed by approximately 2 weeks for tabulation of results. d. 11/22/2016 – Canvass (certification) of election results by Lt. Governor. e. 1/3/2017 – Swearing in of newly elected officials (able to write binding contracts at this point), first city council meeting.
