This weekend, more than 500 residents of Millcreek, and in particular, the Canyon Rim neighborhood, will come together on a single day to aid people in need, clean up our city, and improve the environment. This incredible feat will be accomplished as part of the Canyon Rim Cares Service Weekend. The Canyon Rim Cares Service Weekend is the confluence of private citizens, municipalities and ---PAGE BREAK--- 7/29/2019 Canyon Rim Weekend of Service 2/11 non-profit organizations to deliver service projects that aim to do nothing less than change the world. This two-day event will provide multiple opportunities for residents to participate in community service. The Service Weekend will kick-off tonight with Venture Out, where you can find a non-profit of your choice to which you would like to donate an hour or two of service. On Saturday, you’ll join with hundreds of fellow Millcreek residents in projects that include hygiene kit assembly, improving the commons area of a senior center, graffiti abatement, building Little Free Libraries, painting benches in Canyon Rim Park, and much more! If you’re not able to attend the Day of Service on Saturday, there are opportunities to make a tax- deductible donation to one of several non-profits. Click here to donate. Millcreek Councilmember Cheri Jackson said of last year’s Day of Service: “More than 300 Canyon Rim residents, families, seniors, teens, and youth volunteered serving in several projects to benefit the community. This was a true community event, utilizing partnerships with resident volunteers, faith groups, municipal government, and local businesses.” The variety of service opportunities available are suitable for all ages. The Millcreek Summer Jam Concert Series returns with its final show of the season, featuring Samba Fogo, on July 29th at 7 PM in the Canyon Rim Park amphitheater. Samba Fogo headlines the concert series' eighth and final show of the 2019 season. Drawing on rich Brazilian culture and mythology, Samba Fogo weaves traditional and contemporary dance forms and diverse live music. "Unlike other dance performances, Samba Fogo is not just a spectator sport. The audience was urged to clap along, shout when it suited, and even get up and dance at times.
