A reception will be held at the library from 6-6:45 PM on June 7th. Please join us for light refreshments and musical accompaniment by Jason Dreher and Emily Grace Bender. Happy Online Painters (HOPs) is an online painting class with the Salt LakeCounty virtual senior programing. Each Friday morning a group of friendly, accepting, and gracious artists sign on to a WebEx link for their acrylic painting class. Typically, the class does a painting from start to finish in about one and a half hours. Popular themes include landscapes, animals, birds, flowers and more. There are four leaders that rotate through the schedule. The leader demonstrates, coaches and steps classmates through the entire painting process from start to finish. Occasionally, the class has guest artists. At these times watercolors and oils have been explored. Most of the paintings you will see in this exhibit were completed during the 1.5-2 hours of class time. However, sometimes an individual artist will see the need for a few final tweaks after stepping back from their painting for a deeper look and then do additional touch ups after class. This unique and special class offers an escape into the world of art and provides a valued creative therapy outlet. Our hope for this exhibit is that you will have as much fun viewing our art as we have had in creating it! ---PAGE BREAK--- Jason Dreher started playing music at age 11, receiving private music tutoring after school on the trombone. He picked up the guitar at age 14. After High School he moved from his home state of Wyoming to California to study for 2 years at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Jason recently graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors degree in jazz guitar performance. Emily Grace Bender has played guitar for 19 years and has played professionally since 2016. She graduated from the University of Utah in 2017 with a Bachelors degree in Classical Guitar Performance. When she isn’t teaching private guitar and drum lessons, she plays in orchestra pits for local theater companies. CONSTRUCTION NOTICES Road Treatment Work Begins Now that the weather had warmed up, road treatment work will begin. Each year all Millcreek roads are inspected and prioritized for treatment and how far budget dollars can be stretched to work on the most roads. We realize that there are many areas where work is needed and determinations are made as to which treatment would work best on which road in order to extend their useable life until funds are found for expensive total rebuilds. In the last few weeks, crews have been out in certain areas applying crack seal, creating interesting looking squiggly, bumpy lines on the pavement. This was ---PAGE BREAK--- handled while the weather was still not warm enough for the final treatment and is applied to done to keep water from getting underneath the road, the main culprit that creates road damage. Slurry seal and micro paving work will begin on Wednesday, June 5th, and will impact College Street, Imperial Street, 1500 East, Connor Street, Lambourne Avenue, and the Forest Hills area. Residents have begun to receive notifications and a second notice giving 24 hour notice will be distributed when work moves to each individual street. Residents who have questions or concerns, please call the city offices at 801- 214-2700, We understand any road work is disruptive and appreciate resident patience. Please abide by all construction signage, slow down, and be safe. 900 East Construction Nearing Completion We are almost there! As we enter the final stages of construction, we appreciate your continued patience. Starting as early as Monday, June 10, crews will begin the final steps of road construction on 900 East between 4500 South and 3900 South. This includes micro surfacing, road striping, and applying thermoplastic road markings. During this work, residents can expect to temporarily lose driveway access for 1-2-hour periods while crews pass in front of their property for each construction activity. Crews will start this work on the east side of 900 East. Once that is completed, they will shift traffic and finish work on the west side. See the anticipated schedule below. WORK SCHEDULE Micro surfacing: Monday, June 10 – Wednesday, June 12 Road striping: Thursday, June 13 Thermoplastic application: Wednesday, June 19 – Friday, June 21 Please note that all construction activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. As this is a rolling operation, specific dates and times for when crews will ---PAGE BREAK--- be paving in front of your property are unknown. To avoid interrupted access to your driveway, we recommend parking vehicles on nearby side streets prior to this work. Please note that on-street parking along 900 East is prohibited during construction.
